"I had a really good experience with Hometown Contractors. Jordan was honest, professional, and actually took the time to explain everything in a way that made sense. I appreciated that he wasn?t trying to upsell me or push work that didn?t need to be done. The whole process felt straightforward and stress-free, and the quality of the work came out great. You can tell they actually care about doing the job the right way. I?d definitely recommend them and would use them again"

"Wells Asphalt Paving did a great job! One day to tear out the old driveway and put in new gravel base, then a few days later laid the new asphalt. Efficient, explained things well and most important, did a great job at a reasonable cost. The neighbors are already commenting on day one!"

"Guido showed up as scheduled for an estimate and for the repair/seal coating. Our driveway is about 5,000 square feet and he seal coated the entire driveway. The material and workmanship were good.. He used a roller and was careful not to get the coating on the curb at the house entrance. He also repaired two small holes lefts by a plumber in fixing a water leak under my driveway. The repair work was fine, but the two repaired areas do not blend in with the rest of my driveway. I expected the repairs would not be so visible."

"They called out of the blue and we have needed it done for a long time. He said they were giving a big discount to keep staff working through covid-19. I had never gotten a quote for it so I don't know if it was a good price but it seemed reasonable. They showed up the very next day and did the job. We tend to have flooding so they graded to flow into the front yard and dug a trench to help get the water flowing. It still puddles some when it rains heavy but is much better."

"I would definitely recommend this company, without hesitation, for doing asphalt paving. Howard, his brother, Leonard, and the rest of their crew did an excellent job on my driveway. They showed up on time, worked hard, and finished the job in the time they said. They were all professional and courteous. A top notch company."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The three most common types of asphalt are hot asphalt, MC cold mix, and UPM asphalt. Hot asphalt is used most often for paving and patching roadways while it’s hot and workable. MC cold mix asphalt cures more slowly than hot asphalt, but it can be used for temporary patches and repairs in low-traffic areas. UPM is also used cold, but it can be used as a longer-term fix, usable in almost any conditions at almost any temperature.

Chip seal layers gravel and a liquid bitumen one at a time on-site, while asphalt directly pours a pre-combined mixture. Asphalt must be sealed, but it will last up to four times as long as chip seal driveways. Aesthetically, chip seal has a natural, rustic look compared to the traditional asphalt slab.

Sometimes, when people talk about asphalt driveways, they’re actually referring to asphalt concrete, which is a completely different compound. Asphalt concrete is asphaltic cement combined with sand or grit. It is significantly more lasting and durable than regular asphalt but also much more expensive. If you’re considering using asphalt concrete, ask an asphalt company for their expert opinions.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

Recycled asphalt is not better than gravel, but can be a good alternative. It is inexpensive, but not as low-cost as gravel, and doesn’t tend to last as long. Recycled asphalt isn’t as dusty as gravel and is more environmentally friendly. The black look can be something that homeowners prefer. No matter what, ensure you choose an experienced recycled asphalt contractor.
