"Jeff and his coworker, David, did an outstanding job on our garage addition and new roof. We could not be happier with the way everything turned out. The only problem that we have now, that we did not have before- we cannot walk outside without one of the neighbors stopping us to tell us how great the house looks! They did such a great job with the addition; it looks like it was part of the original house. Jeff was there every day during the construction process. I was under the impression a lot of this (concrete, framing, roofing) would have been subcontracted out, nope! Jeff and Dave did every phase of our project. Communication was great. If we had a question, Jeff answered it. His pricing was very fair and appreciated knowing where we stood financially throughout the project. I would not hesitate to recommend Jeff to my friends and family, and we look forward to our next project with JMC!"

Garages questions, answered by experts

The lifespan of a hurricane garage door depends on several factors, such as the quality of the materials, how well it's maintained, and the local weather conditions. As a rule of thumb, most hurricane garage doors can last anywhere from 15 to 30 years or more with proper care. However, if you start to see visible damage, the garage door becomes noisier, or you experience difficulty operating it, it may be time for a replacement.

You can put sliding doors on your garage, but it’ll save you money if you install them when you’re building the garage, so you avoid removal costs for the old door. Garage doors are sectional, using vertical tracks and large springs to lift the door. These require professional removal, and the cost can quickly add up to thousands of dollars.

A garage door should last 30 years, give or take, before it needs replacing, so your panels should last for around that long as well. However, you should replace your garage door panels sooner if the door doesn’t function smoothly if one of the panels gets visibly damaged, or if an issue with a panel is creating a security issue.

Garages are often equipped with lighting, electrical boxes, and sometimes even heating and cooling, while carports rarely have utilities. A garage is an enclosed structure that can lock and usually has an automatic door. A carport is often wood or plastic and is designed only to protect a car from elements like rain, snow, and hail. Carports are commonly seen on property where an attached garage is unfeasible but can be a cost-effective solution for car protection for anyone without a completed garage.

You have a couple of options when it comes to lubricant. A silicone-based lubricant is a great choice because it lubricates the door and prevents rust and corrosion from forming. This type of lubricant also lasts a long time and works well in extreme cold and heat, making it ideal for garage doors. Other products you can use include lithium grease and silicone spray. Avoid using heavy, oil-based lubricants, as they can promote debris getting caught up in your garage door tracks.
