"Mr Jones and Epic Homes is an ideal contractor to work with if you want attention to detail and a job completed that exceeds your expectations. His crew is on point and they strive to meet your wants and needs. When things don’t go as planned, they do their best to find a solution that will appease you as the home owner and try their best to stay within the budget agreed upon. "After my parents home was damaged during Ian, it was hard to find a reliable contractor to take care of the damage in the house. My senior citizen parents didn’t even know where to begin, I was thrilled to see that schooner bay builders was offering remodels. I know many of the people that work there are local Graduates of NFM, Cape, and Mariner, and have built a reputable realty office in the area. I contacted Them and had someone out to my parents home to inspect and then work with the insurance companies to make sure most of the damages were covered. They did a great job and my parents home looks better now than it did before the storm! Thanks Schooner Bay, you have made a customer for life."

"Recommended, this Company is definitely out of league, other thing, I didn’t expect such a level of professionalism and attention, these days people is just about the money and for business only, this Contractor really care about your project, just good things to say about them."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Most Cape Cod houses are two stories tall at the peak, although they’re considered one-and-a-half stories tall because the steep roof pitch cuts off a portion of the living space on the second story. Unless you raise the roof on your Cape Cod house to add a dormer, the interior rooms upstairs will lose some usable living space to the sloped ceilings.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

Proper Murphy bed installation minimizes the risk of wall damage. A secure attachment requires making some holes for anchors or brackets, but these can be easily patched if the bed is removed. To ensure the installation is done correctly and safely, hiring a professional is recommended, especially if you have limited DIY experience.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.
