"Hunter was very knowledgeable, courteous, and most of all professional. He worked with me to get my appointment scheduled although his schedule was booked. He continued to communicate with me about the possible issues/causes of my chimney problem so that he would be prepared with the right equipment and parts on arrival. He arrived when he said he would and completed the job to my satisfaction. He went above and beyond what I expected. I would definitely use him again for any chimney issues I have. I will also recommend him to my neighbors who may also have issues with their chimneys. I was impressed with his workmanship."

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

Whether you should repair or replace your roof boils down to the scope of the damage. If you need to replace more than 20% or 30% of your roof, then it’s probably a good idea to just replace the entire roof, as leaving older sections up can leave parts of your roof open to more issues. By replacing your roof, you can have peace of mind that no pesky leaks are sneaking into your home.

The most common defect in a flat roof is leaking. Flat roofs have minimal slope, so water pools more readily on a flat roof than on a sloped roof, and the risk of the waterproof membrane failing increases with exposure. Tears and punctures from foot traffic and blown debris are other common problems, especially with single-ply roofing membranes like TPO and EPDM roofs.

You should avoid walking on a slate roof. Though the material is highly durable, it can crack under the pressure of your feet, and the surface of the slate tiles can become extremely slippery when they get wet. Walking on a slate roof is, therefore, more dangerous than walking on something like asphalt shingles, both in terms of personal injury and property damage. If you do have to work on your slate roof, hire a pro. Most contractors use special equipment to avoid putting pressure on slate tiles.

Look underneath the shingles at the edge of your roof—you should be able to see the ice and water shield in between your roof and the shingles.

You may not always be able to see a soft spot on the roof from the exterior. If the underlying damage isn’t yet severe enough to cause the shingles to buckle or show other signs of damage, you may not be able to see that there’s a problem from the outside. A roof inspection will be able to identify soft spots. When a roofer walks on the surface of your roof, they’ll be able to find soft or spongy sections.
