"New Crete did a beautiful job resurfacing our driveway. The builder (Capstone) did a terrible job on the concrete when we had our home built. New Crete ground it down, and worked their magic and it now looks like a new driveway. Great company to work with too. Stayed in touch during the winter months when it was too cold to do the work. "I am so happy with my freshly regrouted pavers. It’s better than it was when they were installed. The biggest joy is not having the rains spout against the wall going to the driveway. Derrick did a wonderful job. I just wish I knew about him sooner so he could have done the job originally. He and Sylvia are so personable."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

For asphalt paving in Lewes, select a salt-resistant asphalt mix with polymer modifiers and anti-stripping agents to handle coastal air and winter conditions. Porous asphalt is ideal for stormwater management. Use a high-quality binder such as PG 64-22 or PG 70-22 and a 4-6 inch base of #57 stone or dense-graded aggregate. Finish with a UV-resistant sealcoat to extend durability.

Helpful?

In Lewes, you'll find various contractors for asphalt paving. Many are small, family-owned businesses serving Sussex County, some specializing in coastal properties and salt-resistant materials. Others focus on residential driveways or larger commercial projects. You can also hire specialists for maintenance tasks like sealcoating, which is critical in Lewes's coastal environment, or for specific repairs like crack sealing and resurfacing.

Helpful?

The longevity of asphalt paving in Lewes depends on thorough base preparation for sandy soils, using high-quality, salt-resistant materials, and ensuring effective drainage design. Proper timing—avoiding high humidity or rain—is crucial, as is regular maintenance like sealcoating and prompt crack repair. Keeping stormwater drains clear and scheduling annual inspections help your driveway withstand coastal weather and remain in top condition.

Helpful?

In Lewes, watch for alligator cracking, crumbling edges, standing water, or visible salt residue on your driveway. These signs indicate water infiltration or a failing base, which can quickly escalate in sandy or flat areas. Addressing small cracks and edge wear early helps prevent major repairs or full replacement, especially given the region’s unique soil and weather conditions.

Helpful?

In DE's coastal environment, your main driveway and any turnaround areas will experience the most wear. Surfaces with high salt exposure from ocean proximity and low-lying zones with poor drainage are also vulnerable. South-facing asphalt is subject to faster degradation from sun exposure. Also, watch for damage from the roots of mature trees, which are common in established Lewes neighborhoods.
