"They did a great job, and they did it quickly. So many contractors take way too long. But they got right to it. Very happy with my new driveway. Drainage was a main concern; water runs right down the middle of the driveway."

"Christian Fletcher did an amazing job on my driveway. My driveway was way overdue for a sealcoat. I had two large cracks and other minor cracks that I was unaware of. Christian took time out of his busy schedule to come to my house to thoroughly exam my driveway. He was honest about what was needed to restore my overdue aged driveway. He broke explained everything is was going to do and all the materials is was going to use. Christian was punctual, professional and respectful during this entire process. I would, without a doubt, recommend his services....Thank you Christian for making my driveway look brand new again......."

"MCM did an excellent job of preparing and installing stone over a block long road to my garage, and across the front of several homes and driveways along the way...and they took the time to compact the entire job which most contractors don't do. They were there on time and the price for the scope of this work was very reasonable. However, when asked to return to add some stone to the aprons of a neighbor's driveway--where they had poured the stone at right angles which caused the neighbor to turn into the driveway on the grass--I was told we would have to wait until August because they were too busy with paving jobs at this point. It would only take a half yard of loose stone--and 30 minutes to put it in place--but they couldn't find the time. I will now order the stone and pour it on the aprons myself to complete the job. The net is, if it weren't for the lack of follow-up, I would have given their work a 5 star rating--and do recommend them--with the caveat that one should not expect them to return to fix something after the fact no matter how minor it may be."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Gravel is the cheapest way to extend a driveway. Gravel is an affordable, practical option that’s easy to install and perfect for DIY projects, helping you save on labor costs. It can be quickly spread and leveled to create extra driveway space without heavy preparation. While gravel doesn’t offer the same durability or finished look as concrete or asphalt, its low cost makes it ideal for budget-conscious homeowners who want a functional solution without overspending.

If you notice minor cosmetic problems with your driveway, you should seal it. Look out for cracks and holes on the surface, faded asphalt or concrete, and stains from oil and other chemicals. Replacing your driveway may be necessary if you’re dealing with significant problems—¼-inch cracks, large potholes, and puddles from drainage issues. The cost to install an asphalt driveway typically ranges between $4,200 and $9,000, significantly more than resealing. Consider talking to a professional to discuss whether resurfacing your driveway—a midway project between resealing and replacing—is a better option for you.

The three most common types of asphalt are hot asphalt, MC cold mix, and UPM asphalt. Hot asphalt is used most often for paving and patching roadways while it’s hot and workable. MC cold mix asphalt cures more slowly than hot asphalt, but it can be used for temporary patches and repairs in low-traffic areas. UPM is also used cold, but it can be used as a longer-term fix, usable in almost any conditions at almost any temperature.

In terms of durability, concrete driveways can last more than 50 years when properly maintained, compared to the typical 30 years for an asphalt driveway. However, the durability depends on the climate, base material and thickness, and thickness of the concrete or asphalt used. The longevity of concrete or asphalt driveways also depends on how well it’s maintained and the amount of wear and tear it endures.

There’s no single best asphalt grade—it all comes down to where and how it’s used. Highways and heavy-traffic roads need something tough, like polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) or Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA). Local roads and parking lots rely on the Performance Graded (PG) system, chosen based on climate. A PG 64-28 mix, for example, handles a broad temperature range while simpler, more cost-effective mixes are typically enough for residential driveways. The best grade of asphalt depends on traffic, weather, and your budget, which is why a professional’s input is always a smart move before making a decision.
