"I am extremely pleased with the work Carlos did for me. He weeded my flower beds, put fresh mulch down in all beds, trimmed a couple of bushes and spread stone. My yard looks beautiful. He was here on time and completed the work in a timely manner, and Is very reasonably priced. He's very pleasant to work with. I will definitely be using him in the future. I recommend Santos Landscaping highly."

"Kevin was great to work with. His crew that was assigned to do our patio arrived promptly each day and were the nicest guys to work with. They cleaned up each day and made certain the property was left in good condition. We are pleased with the patio installation and would highly recommend them. They will be back in the fall to do some additional work for us as we will use them for all our landscaping needs moving forward."

"I'm an engineer by profession and have hired contractors for over 40 years. I hired Castellanos Landscaping for my personal patio and driveway paver project. Pedro (owner) wears his compay on his sleeves from sales to warranty. He truly takes a project from design, estimating, permitting, scheduling, supervision, hands on, punch list, warranty. He is very sincere and forthright because his goal is to meet his customers goal. Typical I don't give reviews but Pedro has my respect as a professional contractor setting his own brand of excellence."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Many people have used old tires in gardens as raised beds, planters, tree rings, and DIY decor. However, these uses are not recommended due to the toxicity of many of the chemicals used to manufacture tires. These chemicals can leach into the soil and water as the tire breaks down, creating environmental pollution and health hazards for gardeners and their families.

While you can leave roots in the ground, if you don’t want the shrub to regrow again over time, it’s best not to leave any roots behind. Ensure you remove as much of the shrub as possible, including the root ball and any main roots you can see, to prevent new growth. Some gardeners opt for using a chemical treatment to prevent the stump from growing back, but this can kill beneficial microorganisms living in your soil.

It is for the purpose of protecting them from hail because you’ll be removing it soon after the threat is over. However, plastic or vinyl tarps aren’t recommended as a long-term way of protecting your plants from frost because they’ll trap too much moisture inside, which is actually not a good thing for your plants. But in the short term, it’s fine to use even an overturned garbage can to protect a plant from hail.

Buying plants from a nursery is one thing, but ensuring that they are properly planted is another. While you might not need to hire a landscaper for every plant that you buy from a nursery, it’s a great idea to have their expertise and experience to plant larger items, like burlapped trees or specialty plants like rose bushes. Even better, before making a trip to a nursery to buy new plants, consult a local landscaper to test your soil for pH levels, soil texture, and phosphorus and potassium levels to help determine the best plants for your area.

Yes, you can absolutely transplant bushes instead of removing them completely. The success depends on the size of the bushes, their age, and the transplanting season. Ideally, transplant during the dormant season (late fall or winter). Dig out the entire root system in one piece, fill the new hole with fresh soil and mulch, and water thoroughly after planting.
