"His work was outstanding in all respects. He was completely trustworthy.  His price was right in the middle of all the estimates I got. In my case he stuck to his estimate but he didn't find any unexpected damage while he was working either. He did the job in 4 hours less than quoted maximum time frame. I'd have no hesitation in recommending his services are using his services again.

"It was very frustrating because of delays, he told me it would take about 2-3 weeks initially, and took well over 3 months.  It was very difficult to get a hold of this provider, and to get them out on the dates that were scheduled.   We live in a community with a Home Owners Associations and needed documents in order to do our project, which took over a month to get turned in.  I have since tried to get a hold of the provider regarding our windows not working properly, but still have yet to receive a phone call back.  It is disappointing that this company will not return my phone calls after the job has already been paid for. "

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Universal design is a design concept that states that products, spaces, and general environments are designed to be used by everyone, with an emphasis on accessibility for those with limited mobility or other special needs.

You likely need to hire an architect for your new house design and build, unless you have the design skills and experience with building regulations and standards needed to get your plans approved. If you are able to meet the design requirements, you can hire a draftsperson to create the blueprints for the builders to follow.

You'll find Arts and Crafts homes across the country in varying styles. On the East Coast, bungalows and Tudor Revivals fill the Boston area through New Jersey. In the West, Mission-style homes incorporate terracotta shingles, white stucco siding, and rounded archways.

When conducting space planning, building codes and regulations need to be considered. As long as you are taking them into account and discussing them with the architect, you should be able to do your space planning appropriately.

Yes, new home construction will always require building permits, no matter where you live. In most cases, you’ll need a general construction permit, along with plumbing and electrical permits for the utility lines in your home. Depending on where you live, you’ll likely find that you also need permits for things like connection to a sewage system or installing exterior components, like decks, driveways, patios, and curb cutouts. Leave navigating the permits required for new home construction to a professional to ensure your home is built legally and safely.
