"Dealing with Joe Graham was outstanding! He was prompt in getting back to us with any questions or requests we had. He was also extremely patient as we made changes as we went along which were not contemplated originally. We had major renovations to the bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, replacement of the deck and the addition of a sunroom and painting throughout. The quality of the work was superb from painting, to tile work, to carpentry. I would recommend Coastal Home Renovations for any modifications around a house. Absolutely fantastic!! Highly recommended!!"

Small jobs welcome

"Greg Byler is a master craftsman. Greg built an entirely custom fireplace wall feature for a vaulted ceiling wall. We simply showed Greg a photo from an online source of a dramatic floor to ceiling wood surround. Greg built it consulting our wishes every step of the way. The finishes and craftsmanship are beautiful. We were very happy to invite Greg into our home. He's very pleasant. Working with Greg was an all around very good experience and we're entirely happy with the finished wall."

"Brent and his crew provided quality, fine workmanship. Due to local ordinances our simple roof extension project became a lot more complex and Atlantic fulfilled our every wish in a prompt time frame with competitive pricing. Our screened in deck/porch looks like it was always there! Check them out for any home projects you may have-after they finish our interior projects! 😀"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

A few signs that you need a new door frame include:

  • The door no longer fits properly in its frame and sticks or scrapes.

  • You notice cracks, holes, or rotting.

  • You feel a draft coming from around the door when it’s closed.

  • You find yourself frequently needing to make repairs.

While some highly experienced homeowners can frame a house independently, it is not advisable. You will need ample carpentry experience, a team of helpers, and professionals to sign off on your work to meet local building codes. For the safest outcome, we recommend buying or building a house with the guidance of professionals.

Yes, professional installations include reinforced corner posts to ensure durability.
