"Santos arrived promptly this afternoon to see the job and to give me a quote. When I agreed to his very reasonable amount, he said he had the time right then to get the job done. He and his wife, Maura, worked very hard and assiduously and completed the entire job in 3 hours! My yard around the fallen limbs was raked and cleaned of all twigs and debris. I am very pleased with the fine job done so expediently, and the very fair price! I recommend Santos Masonry and Landscaping for any small projects you may need in your yard or around your home! "I'm an engineer by profession and have hired contractors for over 40 years. I hired Castellanos Landscaping for my personal patio and driveway paver project. Pedro (owner) wears his compay on his sleeves from sales to warranty. He truly takes a project from design, estimating, permitting, scheduling, supervision, hands on, punch list, warranty. He is very sincere and forthright because his goal is to meet his customers goal. Typical I don't give reviews but Pedro has my respect as a professional contractor setting his own brand of excellence."

Customers say: True professional

"It went very well. Boni was recommended to us and he was so professional and helpful when we met that we did not ask for quotes from other companies. He did not disappoint. The only delays were due to delays with raw material suppliers. Once the work began, the crew worked incredibly hard and cleaned up after each day’s work was completed. Boni was responsive to all questions. We plan to continue hiring him as we decide on additional landscaping and yearly clean-up."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

By definition, gardeners are experts at designing and maintaining outdoor gardens. Their job duties extend far beyond choosing the right plants for the area, which in itself is a job—they also help maintain the health and well-being of the plants. Gardeners work independently or for landscapers, nurseries, or horticulture design companies.

The best size rock for your landscaping depends on the design, as different boulders serve different purposes. If you want to group boulders to create a natural-looking cluster, you’ll need a range of sizes. Otherwise, here are some suggestions:

  • Small boulders (smaller than 12 inches across): Best for landscape edging and fire pits

  • Medium boulders (12–24 inches): Best for retaining walls and water features

  • Large boulders (more than 24 inches): Best as standalone landscaping features, steps, or walkways.

Of course, you can mix and match sizes to create a unique display.

Yes, you can hydroseed with a garden hose, but you’ll need a tank or other large vessel for mixing the slurry, then a pump to send the slurry through the hose for spraying. Making your own hydroseeding unit can work, but it’s not usually worth the effort and supplies unless you already have them.

You should avoid planting grass, shrubs, plants, and trees in freezing temperatures, as the ground can get frozen and become too hard for proper root growth. It’s best to plant in the fall to allow your plants to establish root systems before the first frost. Landscaping when the average temperature in your area is between 50 and 60 degrees will usually deliver the best results.

Yes, you can landscape in the rain, but you should take some precautions to keep yourself and your tools safe. Avoid using electric landscaping tools during rainfall, and don’t mow, thatch, aerate, or rake in the rain, as your tools can more easily tear out roots in the loose soil. Be careful when working on wet grass, and take your time to avoid slipping. Avoid putting in new plants before a particularly bad storm, as heavy rain and strong winds can damage or uproot plants that aren’t yet established.
