Small jobs welcome

"I had someone who kept stalling to do my lawn. It was one excuse after another and 2-years of no fall clean-up. I finally decided to go on Home Advisor and the first quote I was waiting on from another company never responded. When I started to look into Gileau’s Lawn Service, LLC, I first hesitated. Instead, they contacted me immediately, he saw my lawn and said he would try to get to it that day. Next thing you know, his company showed up and mowed my outgrown lawn and it looks beautiful. I decided to hire them and they came back and did another pass the same week. Very friendly service. I’m so happy I went with them and I have plans to beauty my back yard."

Weed Services questions, answered by experts

There are organic herbicide options that will kill grass but not flowers, including white vinegar or a dish soap solution. Commercial selective herbicides can also target grass over other plants, but read the instructions carefully to avoid damaging your garden. Herbicides that kill grass but not flowers usually include ingredients like clethodim and sethoxydim. Otherwise, your best bet will be to weed by hand.

Dandelions, while hard to control and widespread across the country, are not typically categorized as noxious. Yellow starthistle, however, looks very similar to a dandelion and is highly damaging to local plants and invasive across the country.

The best way to keep voles from tunneling in your yard is to keep grass trimmed and bushes cut back from the ground at least 5 inches. Cleaning up yard debris, wood chip piles, and brush piles can also help keep voles at bay. If you notice vole activity, you can also remove bird feeders since these are a ready source of food for the tunneling rodents.

Some of the particular herbicides that work best to get rid of nut grass without killing the grass include Halosulfuron-methyl, mesotrione, sulfentrazone, and metsulfuron. A herbicide like glyphosate would kill nutgrass, but it will kill nearby plants, too.

The most effective way to eliminate quack grass without killing the grass nearby is to overseed the area, keep the seed wet until it grows, mow often, and regularly fertilize the area to promote healthy grass that can choke out the invasive weed.
