Avoid watering your plants once temperatures regularly reach freezing temperatures or lower. Water won’t make it down to the roots at that point—it’ll just freeze to the topsoil level.

Mowing a lawn will, unfortunately, not get rid of clover, and it may even encourage it to flourish. On average, the best height to cut grass typically falls between 2 and 3 inches throughout the year. Aim for the shorter side of this range when you mow for the last time of the year to avoid common winter lawn diseases and moisture issues.

Depending on your lawn mower type, you can mow anywhere from 2.5 to 13 miles per hour (mph). A simple push lawn mower will take the longest to mow at 2.5 mph, which is just under the average walking pace. Riding mowers can go significantly faster. Rear engines come in at around 5 mph, tractors come in at just shy of 8 mph, and zero-turn mowers come in at the fastest speed of 13 mph.
