"The contractor we hired to do the work went out of business without telling us and we were stuck. Brian to the rescue. Even though our roof was much steeper than he usually works on he agreed to replace the glass in our three skylights. He did an excellent job and I couldn't be more thrilled. He prepped the roof one day and finished the job the next. It is a real treat to be able to see through our skylights again. Thank you Brian."

"From start to finish, Vin (CD Roofing) was incredible. He called himself to set up the quote, was on time and had samples in his truck. He walked the property and discussed the roof condition. He then wrote out his quote; of course it was the best around. He then provided a firm date that we would be onsite to complete the roof. He and his team showed up on time and worked all day to complete the project. The workers were respectful and hard working. The roof is absolutely amazing; the color, workmanship, the entire process. If you go with someone else, you will be making a mistake."

"A1 did a great job on my new roof and gutters. Clearly defined scope of work, prompt and flexible scheduling, used high-quality shingles with a good warranty. They don't subcontract out their roofing work, which is a big plus. Considerate workers, documented the new roof with photos and videos, and had everything cleaned up by the end of the day. Recommended for a trouble-free roof replacement."

"David Faraone from Cedar Valley Exteriors succeeded in having Insurance pay for our roof!!! Last year,…I made the mistake of choosing a “second rate” roof company that tried and failed to approve our roof through Insurance. After the “other” roof company let me down and insurance rejected me,… I decided to have David help. He met our insurance adjuster and we had a FULL ROOF REPLACEMENT AWARD within a few days. Experience matters,… call David Faraone at Cedar Valley Exteriors for ANY storm dmg, or water damage issues. They are #1… Antero G."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Copper roof strips offer better coverage and more damage protection than zinc roof strips. Although both deter moss and algae growth, copper also offers UV protection. Zinc strips require more strips than copper to cover the roof’s surface area, which means more holes in your roof. Copper strips are also more flexible and last longer than zinc strips.

How long shingles last depends on the type of shingles you have on your roof. Asphalt shingles normally last anywhere from 15 to 30 years, metal shingles can last anywhere from 15 to 100 years, and tile shingles can last anywhere from 50 to 100 years or more.

It’s possible to walk on a clay tile roof, but you run the risk of breaking or cracking the tiles if you’re not careful, so it’s best not to walk on it if you can avoid it. If you or a contractor needs roof access, be sure to distribute your weight evenly and step on the portions of tile that are also supported underneath, which depends on your tile design. Walking on any roofing material is inherently dangerous, so wear rubber-soled shoes and use safety equipment if you need to access your roof.

A chimney cap costs about $300 on average to install, with prices ranging from $75 to $1,000. The final cost depends on several factors, including the professional you hire, the accessibility of your chimney, the cap's material and size, whether any repairs are needed, and if it requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, stainless steel, or copper. Copper caps are the most expensive, followed by stainless steel and then galvanized steel. Excluding labor, average material costs are around $100 for galvanized steel, $250 for stainless steel, and $600 for copper. You may also face additional costs, such as hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before the cap is installed.

A gable roof costs between $13,000 and $30,000, depending on the size of your roof, the materials you use, and the type of gable roof you install. If you’re building a gable roof for new construction or as part of a major home remodel, your pricing will also depend on the type of roof trusses you use, how accessible your property is, and some other factors.
