"After posting on Home Advisor on Saturday morning Jeremiah contacted me within 15 minutes and arrived shortly thereafter to look at the tree that had hit my house puncturing my roof in several places. At first I wanted to get other quotes but I called him back that afternoon to ask how soon he could do the job, His crew was on site early Sunday morning and he and his crew removed the tree and all debris on my roof to that we could put tarps on the roof to protect the house from further damage from rain expected Sunday evening. A larger crew arrived once the rain had stopped and cut and removed all tree debris from the yard and left my lawn cleaner than when they arrived. I cannot say enough about how pleased I am that Autumn Leaves did the work. They are very professional and thorough and provide an excellent service. Please give them a call if you need tree service. You will not be disappointed."

"Glen Lamb is awesome to work with. We had him take down trees at 2 locations. Lamb’s was far cheaper than other quotes we received for the first job, saving us a lot of money, so we hired him again. His crew was efficient and courteous. Would definitely hire again for future tree service without hesitation."

"I hired Save A Tree to trim my big 175-200 year old oak tree. I told them there were ants in the tree and I was concerned about future damage. They told me they can do ant treatment also a seaweed treatment to help prevent shock. I had several other companies look at my tree. They were the only ones that even mentioned having services like this! Or discussed shock prevention for my tree."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Rock salt or Epsom salt can damage and kill tree roots over several weeks and can even assist in removing the tree's stump. However, you need to drill holes or cut into the stump and surface tree roots to inject them properly with the salt. Repeat the process every two weeks until the roots visibly rot away.

Aside from removing dead or diseased branches, you should prune your trees somewhere between every one and three years. Some people—particularly commercial farmers—prune their apple trees yearly to produce higher yields. This is the best way to promote tree health. That said, the average homeowner can get away with hard-pruning their mature apple tree every other year or every three years.

If it’s only a smaller branch that has died and you’re keeping an eye on the tree, it’s probably nothing to worry about. But if other nearby branches start dying off as well, or a very large branch dies, then you likely have a bigger problem. It’s time to watch for diseases and other problems and possibly get professional guidance on how to proceed.

We recommend removing the stump, and grinding is a popular way to do it. You can also dig out small stumps or stumps that have fully decayed instead of grinding them. However, don’t try using acids or fire for killing a tree stump, which is a fire hazard and illegal in many areas.

Leaving the stump alone invites eventual problems, including attracting termites, mold, and fungi.

Surface-level tree roots might only pose a small threat, such as being a tripping hazard or obstacle when you mow your lawn. But if mature tree roots start growing in the direction of your home’s foundation or plumbing system, it could be a real problem. Cutting small tree roots out before they grow too large can keep your home safe without removing the whole tree.
