Customers say: True professional

"Roger is a gentleman and a professional of the highest caliber. My wife and I are building a home in North Stonington, CT and hired a virtual architect 2 years ago to design our home. After $5,000, and 3 months, we were left with what felt like an intern-level deliverable. We swore that the next time we used professional services, we would find someone who had experience in the industry, knowledge of the area, and the passion for building a young families dream home, not just processing work. We found all of those things in Roger and could not be happier with his work or his kindness as a person. I am now in the budgeting phase and am sending out Rogers drawings for contractors to quote, and the first thing every one of them says is I have not heard of this Greenwald guy but he does damn good work. It inspires my wife and I to know that we were in such capable hands."

The construction of any special place to live is a process, which requires a partnership between owner, architect, and builder. That partnership requires hard work, talent, commitment and trust from everyone involved. I believe in fostering client relationships that encourage equal status, allowing for the best advice. Each home we design, each home we renovate, will affect its owners and their descendants for generations; that is how we approach our work. We strive to infuse unique ideas and personality into every one of our designs.\n\nPlease view our website at: www.crisparchitects.com \n\nThank you for your consideration. SD Atelier - Architecture, L.L.C. is a firm rich in the background of custom designed new homes referencing both the clients personal needs and their specific design tastes. \n\nOur project types (portfolio) range from historical/ tradional; of the Arts and Crafts, French Tudor to the Contemporary of the Shingle Style, Cottage and Modern Day Bungalow. Our firms 28 years of experience has allowed us to work in New York, New England, Switzerland and Germany. From this experience we believe that custom residential design involves both the interior as well as the exterior design elements. Our staff which includes an Interiors Architecture graduate has been involved in the design of kitchens, paneled studies, custom staircases, built-in cabinetry and even furniture in some cases.\n\nWe work with the Homeowner in the selection not only of the exterior finishs and details, but the interior finishes and trim as well. We support the Homeowner in the selection of doors, hardware, plumbing fixtures, tile/ stonework and lighting. We believe strongly that the finish details are as important as the general space planning and design.\n\nOur size allows us to work directly with our clients; which allows SD Atelier Architecture L.L.C. to react promptly and effectively in a personal manner; insuring concerns and program requirements have been implemented and follow through into the details. We believe that open communication, high quality design and deadlines are the key to quality and success.\n\n\n \n\n

Architects questions, answered by experts

While the Arts and Crafts movement inspired many architectural elements, the primary styles from the time include Craftsman, Tudor Revivals, bungalows, and Mission homes. You'll see elements of these styles in homes, churches, museums, and schools—particularly Country Day schools from the era.

An architect plans and designs new construction and alteration projects. They often provide sketches for homes, office buildings, shopping malls, and other structures.

Typically, architects do not build homes in a hands-on sense of doing the actual framing, roofing, or other building. Architects usually do not have the training and experience to build the homes they design. An architect would need to know how to do the specific trades required to build a house, which is possible but not a common practice. A general contractor or homebuilder typically oversees the actual details of building the house that the architect designs.

The cost to draw house plans typically ranges from $800 to $2,700, with standard blueprints averaging around $1,800. For a custom home, the cost is higher, with blueprints often falling between $5,000 and $20,000, and potentially more for very complex designs. Several factors influence the total price, including the project's size, the number of rooms, the type of drawings required, and the architect's experience level. You may also need to pay a structural engineer to ensure building safety, particularly for custom homes.

Architects can cater to both residential and commercial projects, tailoring their approach according to the specific sector regulatory requirements.
