He prepped and drywalled over the failing plaster walls in 2 of my closets that had been damaged due to water. Both closets were fairly difficult to work with, and to work in, as the space is narrow. In both closets, the existing plaster on one wall was right up against an old coal chimney. This is where the previous water damage had been so the plaster was in rough shape and crumbling. It made it much more difficult to secure the new drywall to ensure that the wall would not buckle in the future. Additionally, Larry did a perfect finish job so no prep work was necessary prior to priming and painting the new drywall. Both closets are now clean and functional. Larry was also amazingly clean throughout all of the work. Surprisingly, all drywall dust was contained within the closets. He cleaned up at the end of each day making it much easier to live in the space while drywall work was being done. Larry is simply the best drywall guy ever!!! I highly recommend him for all of your drywall needs. They stood out like a sore thumb because of the light grey primer. Matt and his team at Detailing Dynamics were able to make spot repairs to the chips and then put protective film on the hood to prevent any further damage and reduce the visibility of the chip repairs. I was trying to avoid the time and expense of repainting the hood and bumper cover, and Detailing Dynamics was able to do what other shops said was not possible. The repair turned out very good and is not noticeable unless you know what to look for. Thanks ! We corresponded by email and phone to arrange a site visit. He promised to come out on fairly short notice to assess the repair needs of the two chimneys on our new house -- and on a weekend, no less. In the end, he got tied up and sent his father instead of coming himself. His father was very nice but didn't strike confidence in us that he really knew chimneys. He kept asking us what our home inspector had suggested be done to the chimneys. A few days later, Alex sent along an estimate to repoint our chimneys. The estimate was higher than others we'd received, but not exorbitantly so. Our big problem, and the reason why I rate Alex Masonry a "C," is that Alex's father never realized the extent of the problems our chimneys have. We had another company, which specializes in chimneys, come a week later and learned that our chimney issues extend way past repointing to the point of needing to completely rebuild one of them from the attic upwards. To not do so, apparently, risks a disastrous collapse of the chimney. Alex Masonry completely misdiagnosed our problem and I will not call him again for anything chimney-related. However, to be fair, I recognize that they are not chimney experts. If it comes to building a wall or a patio, I might still look them up again.
The repair person was very helpful - he not only fixed my problem, but gave me advice about having my furnace checked every year which I did not know anything about. Also, said I could call them back if heat does not come back on & stay on. Highly recommend them.

FAQs for plaster repair projects in Norfolk, CT
Applying plaster to a wall will usually cost between $2 and $10per square foot for both the material and labor. The cost will vary based on the quality of the plaster you’re using and whether or not prep work is required before the work begins. Wall prep can add up to about 10% to your total costs. Plastering exterior walls can be more expensive in many cases because they are taller and require scaffolding and safety equipment.
Repairing plaster walls is almost always worthwhile. Not only will plaster repairs make your walls look new again, but repairs of minor cracks can often reinforce the plaster and help prevent the cracks from spreading and widening. Additionally, hiring a professional to carry out plaster wall repair means they can let you know if the cracking is a result of a severe underlying issue. Catching a problem like foundation instability early could save you thousands, a luxury you wouldn’t have if you just repaired the walls yourself.
Plaster repair costs range from $4 to $10per square foot for refinishing, while skim coating can be less expensive, usually between $2 and $5 per square foot. The price you pay for plaster repairs will depend on the extent of the damage, the type of plaster you have on your walls, and the accessibility of the damage. Plaster repair on the exterior of your home tends to be more expensive, as there’s a higher chance that ladders or scaffolding will be necessary to carry out the repair.
It is possible to repair plaster walls yourself, but it’s not always a good idea. Hiring a professional means you’ll have expert eyes on the damage looking to see if there is an underlying issue or if the cracks are just from normal expansion and contraction. Additionally, a professional’s plaster repair will very likely last longer than a DIY job, which means you could end up saving money over time by going with a pro from the start.
All plaster walls will crack over time with expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes, as well as from normal house settling. In these cases, the cracks will usually be thin and don’t mean there are major structural issues. However, excessive cracking, wide wall cracks, and cracks that span around corners can sometimes mean you have a foundation issue. Identifying severe problems is a key reason why hiring a professional for plaster repair is usually a good idea.
