"As soon as I went online to HomeAdvisor, my phone rang and I spoke to a gentleman at Extel Communications. The next day John came to my apartment and in about 15 minutes my problem was fixed. I could not be happier."

"This was by far the best contractor experience I’ve had in many years. Rob is friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He was able to work within my budget and kept me informed during every stage of the process. My generator was ordered and installed in only one week, which was also very impressive. I would highly recommend Buckley & Son Electrical Contractors."

"Mike re-wired my basement outlets at my apartment. He figured out that all of them were wired incorrectly. Not only did he restore power to my basement outlets, he prevented an electrical fire from the previous incorrect wiring. He also installed a new bathroom fan/light combo, with Bluetooth speaker capabilities and multiple led light colors. He was efficient, fairly priced and honest. Highly recommend! Thank you again Mike!"

"Kevin has been doing electrical work for us for about a decade, first upgrading the electrical ststem in our 1920s bungalow in Willimantic, and then coming out numerous times to update various elements in our historic home in Chaplin. He's great to work with, no- nonsense, thoughtful about creating safe solutions for our older house, including a generator installation. A nice person and a true professional."

"We had never planned on having lightening rods installed in our home. We had gone out on an errand and when we came home, William and crew were installing rods on our neighbor's home across the street and William came over and talked to us about installing lightening rods. He didn't give a "sales pitch," just gave us the price including weathervane and we agreed. They were friendly, they were neat, efficient, thoughtful and conscientious. Because of our experience with this company, we would definitely recommend them."

Doorbell Installation questions, answered by experts

The life span of insulation is between 20 and 100 years. At that time, existing insulation can fall victim to gravity, resulting in compression, which reduces its insulating protection or R-value. If you can't simply add more insulation over the existing material, removing the old to increase the effectiveness of the new can reduce your energy bills and make the project worth the time and money investment.

You don’t need to staple insulation, as your drywall and studs will hold it into place. But if you already have a staple gun and staples lying around, it can help keep the product in place and avoid any shifting. But, most experts agree it’s an unnecessary step.

If you’re adding a vapor barrier, you will need to staple that in place.

Vapor barriers in attics are a bit outdated and most areas no longer recommend them for attic spaces. For vented attics, the best method is usually to install drywall and cover it with latex paint before attaching insulation fiberglass, cellulose, or foam insulation. When renovating an attic to use as a living space, a contractor can guide you on the best way to cover insulation.

Costs depend on area size, material thickness, and site preparation needs.

A plastic vapor barrier should completely cover your basement to prevent water from penetrating through the walls. This typically goes before installing insulation to prevent moisture from building up and becoming trapped on the inside of your insulation, where it can collect and lead to mold damage. Installing insulation after the vapor barrier allows for any moisture to exit the walls for better ventilation.
