"Ray was very experienced and helpful and eager to help me with my gutter drainage issues. He didnโ€™t just install brand new guttersโ€”he examined the entire exterior of my house and made recommendations for downspout placement that would drain most of the rainwater away from my house. He made other non-gutter suggestions to help with my drainage issues as well. I had four contractors come to my house for this work and I gave them all the same direction. He was the only one who actually addressed my questions. I would use him again and recommend him highly to others looking for a consultative approach to their gutter project."

"I appreciate the work done by Home Genius. They replaced the soffits, fascia aluminum, and gutters on my 1928 built home. The communication during the sale couldโ€™ve been a bit more specific. At the end of the day, the work performed is acceptable and looks nice. Presentable job."

"They were prompt, quick, neat and when the job was finished, the foreman went around the house with me to ensure all
was done to my satisfaction. They also fixed the connection between the drain and the new gutter. ย The price is with a coupon, but I don't recall the amount.

Gutter Repair and Replacement FAQs, answered by experts

Calcium chloride does not do significant damage to gutters when used properly and in moderate amounts. If you use too much too frequently, it could eventually cause corrosion in your gutters. Rock salt will harm your gutters, though.

The best way to seal gutters is with a combination of waterproof roofing cement and silicone gutter sealant. This powerful duo works to prevent water from escaping through holes and cracks while allowing for breathability. While you can use polyurethane sealants, silicone sealants tend to be more flexible when it comes to climate. Silicone is UV-resistant and bonds well to many surfaces. However, polyurethane sealant bonds better with wood.

The most common problem with gutters is clogging from debris like leaves, blossoms, and seeds from surrounding trees. This debris can block downspouts, leading to improper drainage and water overflow.

Other common issues include:

  • Leaks and holes, which can often be repaired with gutter sealant or caulk.

  • Rust, sagging, or detachment from the roofline.

  • Damage from strong storms.

  • Improperly pitched gutters that don't drain correctly.

Regular cleaning in the spring and fall is the best way to prevent most of these problems. You may need to clean them more often during periods of heavy leaf fall.

Regular cleaning, checking for leaks, and ensuring that downspouts direct water away from the foundation help prolong gutter life.

When it comes to which gutter material is better, the choice really boils down to what you're looking for in a gutter system. If saving money is the most important factor, then your best option is to go for aluminum gutters. If longevity and durability are more important to you, then copper gutters could be the best fit. If you want to customize the color of your gutters, aluminum takes the cake, but if you're looking for a more natural appearance, copper might be a better choice.
