"Tree man is absolutely the best tree service we have ever had. We spoke to Oscar and he came the next day with his very professional crew of six. He removed two big fallen trees from the storm, and his arborist pointed out several others which were dangerous, which they also removed. We asked if they could take down two other trees, which were so close to a building I didn’t think they would be able to, but miraculously they came down with no trouble. They were very competent and raked, shoveled and used leaf blowers to make everything picture perfect after putting it all in the wood chipper. I cannot tell you how pleasant they were and how capable. Their price was excellent for all the work they did. I HIGHLY recommend them. Faith Meo, owner. Wolcott"

No. Topping a tree refers to severely cutting down all its major branches and tree in a straight line. It was once recommended for streetside deciduous trees but has fallen out of practice. Generally, if your neighbor’s tree hangs over your yard, you can legally trim overhanging branches. Keep in mind that you cannot cross your property line to cut the trees, and if you damage the tree by trimming it, your neighbor could sue you. Depending on the type of tree and value, this could mean dishing out two to three times the value of the tree.

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.
