"In renovating our beach cottage in Warwick, RI we found the roof needed structural work. Building inspector required a structural engineered plan. Adam was easy to communicate with. He was timely with his plan and follow up inspection. He was also available by text and phone for questions during the project. He was great to work with!"

"They were excellent. They quickly made a draft that only needed 3 minor adjustments. The final product was exactly what I needed. They referred me to a structural engineer for review. The whole process took half of the time that they initially estimated. I would definitely use them again."

"I was searching for an architect on Angie’s list we’re building a new house in Newington, Ct Roger Greenwald popped up in my search. Roger called me the next day and we booked an appointment for him to come out to the property. He asked us what we wanted and designed the house for exactly what we needed. My mother is an elderly woman, Roger very patient and answered all my mother‘s questions. He wanted to design the house to what stage we were in our life and what would work for us. Roger is extremely knowledgeable in what he does, he returned every phone call every email immediately or within 24 hours. The house he designed was just absolutely beautiful it was everything we wanted. The blueprints were ready within two weeks if not sooner. Roger Greenwald Architect is FIVE STAR I highly recommend him. Once my house is fully built I will come back and upload photos"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Hartford, homeowners often overlook required permits for structural modifications or fail to consider updates to CT building codes. Ignoring soil conditions, especially in river-adjacent neighborhoods, is another common error. Some neglect to check for hidden hazards like old wiring or lead paint, while others hire contractors unfamiliar with Hartford’s unique construction practices, leading to delays, safety risks, or non-compliance with local regulations.

Helpful?

Combining structural engineering with upgrades like basement waterproofing, insulation, or electrical improvements can streamline your Hartford home renovation. Coordinating projects minimizes disruption, simplifies permit and inspection processes, and may reduce overall project time. Planning work during Hartford’s spring construction season and considering energy efficiency upgrades alongside structural repairs can maximize both convenience and long-term value for your property.

Helpful?

In Hartford, structural engineering maintenance involves routinely inspecting your foundation for cracks, especially after freeze-thaw cycles, and checking for moisture damage in wood framing or rust on steel beams. For homes near the Connecticut River flood plain, regular basement waterproofing and soil analysis are crucial. Scheduling a structural assessment every few years, particularly for properties over 75 years old, helps catch issues early and maintain load-bearing walls’ integrity.

Helpful?

When reviewing Hartford structural engineering quotes, be cautious if a proposal is significantly lower than others or omits mention of local permit requirements and building code compliance. Lack of references from Hartford projects, no discussion of soil analysis for foundation work, or failure to address lead-safe practices in older homes are warning signs. Ensure the professional provides a clear project scope and timeline.

Helpful?

Your Hartford home may benefit from structural engineering if you notice uneven floors, foundation settling, or cracks in load-bearing walls—especially in neighborhoods with older housing stock. Homes experiencing persistent basement moisture, roof ice dam damage, or those needing open floor plans or accessibility upgrades are also strong candidates. A professional structural assessment can help identify hidden issues and recommend necessary improvements.
