"When I was locked out of my home I search on google for a local locksmith. Contacted Mr. Dominick from Safeguard locks, he is a very professional locksmith, punctual and charged me fairly. Before I decided to hire him I also contacted two other locksmith companies in Norwalk Ct but I decided to hire Mr. Dominick because his knowledge gave me confidence that he could do the job right. I was right, he was very respectful of my home, explain in details the job and the cost.. no surprises. If you live in Norwalk Connecticut or Fairfield County and you need a licensed locksmith for your home, car or truck look no further than Safeguard locks and ask for Mr. Dominick, he is truly the best locksmith I have ever worked with."

"It went very well. Frank arrived early and he installed two high quality locks on two doors. Frank is highly professional. The locks that were installed look great and they keep my home secure. I believe that Frank has the other Locksmiths beat by a mile. It was easy to make an appointment with him. If any of my friends or family need an outstanding Locksmith; then I would highly recommend Frank."

"Joe was able to come the same day as inquiry and provided a very quick, informative and honest job. He was upfront about the costs, worked around other contractors and completed the work with professionalism.  I would certainly use Joe's company again and recommend him to other Angie's list members."

"My front door lock became inoperative.  I called American Locksmith and they responded in a timely manor.  My problem was diagnosed and I was given options.  A new, exact replacement lock would have been $500 installed.  They suggested getting replacement parts, as the  majority of the lock was in good condition.  The replacement parts were ordered ans in a couple of days were installed.  The lock now works perfectly.
Without question, my best interest was put first and all work was done reliably and efficiently.  I would recommend American Locksmith to anyone.

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

If your key breaks in a lock, first remain calm and avoid forcing the broken piece further in. You may be able to remove it yourself if a portion of the key is still protruding from the lock. To aid removal, lubricate the keyhole with a graphite-based spray. Then, try using tools like pliers, tweezers, a bobby pin, or even a jigsaw blade to gently grasp and pull the broken piece out. If these methods don't work, you can't reach the key, or you're concerned about damaging the lock, it's best to call a professional locksmith for assistance.

Regrettably, entirely pick-proof locks don't exist unless you opt for keyless varieties. Locks advertised as "pick-proof" are, in reality, more resilient against lock-picking and bumping attempts because of complex mechanisms consisting of pins and sidebars. These locks work like this—they assign two tasks to the key, enhancing security by making unauthorized entry more challenging.

It depends on the quality of the keyless lock and usage, but in general, you can expect a keyless lock to last around three to five years. The batteries typically last around six to 12 months. The good news is most keyless locks include a low battery indicator so you can receive ample warning if your battery is about to die.

Newer, electric-powered door locks generally have a life span of five years or less. That’s thanks, in large part, to a phenomenon called planned obsolescence, in which products are programmed to need replacing after a certain amount of time. That’s also why older, manual, push-key locksets can last up to 30 years with regular cleanings and maintenance. When it does come time for a new set-up, know that the cost to change locks ranges from $130 to $500 on average.

Keyless locks are great for convenience, letting you unlock doors with a code or your phone so you don't need to carry keys around. They also often come with helpful features like temporary codes for guests. On the downside, they can be more costly up front and do require batteries that will eventually need replacing. If you value ease of use and additional security features, keyless locks are worth the investment.
