"The two moving persons were incredibly diligent and knowledgeable as well as very personable. Made my move easy and timely! They had a truck and all the equipment to move heavy items and wrapped furniture with their blankets. Highly recommend !"

"Job went very well. Bob showed up on time to replace a total of 8 shutters, fix 3 pieces of a pipe in a garage that had broken due to freezing, fixed the drywall damaged from pipe water and fixed a corner of my house where exterior molding cracked. The shutters required some extra time due my old ones not in alignment with the new ones I purchased. He worked diligently the entire time, explained what he was doing and sought input along the way. Pleasant to work with and easy going. Cleaned up after each job (a plus), took away any old materials or garbage. He charges by the hour versus the job, which I totally get as each job a little different, but he is very mindful of the time and work and keeps moving along - he is not on the phone, not smoking in some truck, or out driving around, but working full time onsite. Overall a very positive experience and I would use him again. Note: Price below is mostly for labor and some supplies (I supplied the shutters)."

Moving questions, answered by experts

While your movers focus on packing and transporting your belongings, you can focus on other parts of your move, such as preparing children and pets to move or cleaning rooms as they’re emptied. You’ll need to be onsite as your movers pack or unpack your stuff, and can help direct movers to where items should go if they need help. Additionally, if there are certain items you’d prefer to move yourself, such as valuables or sentimental items, focus on packing those things and taking them with you during your move.

When loading a moving truck, the general rule is to load the heaviest and largest items first to create a stable base at the front of the truck, which helps balance the weight. You can start with large furniture like sofas, beds, mattresses, and tables to form a solid foundation, or begin by placing your heaviest boxes against the truck's walls to create a base layer. After the base is set, continue loading other large items like appliances and square furniture. Lighter and smaller objects, including most of your boxes, should be loaded last. They can be packed into gaps, around, and on top of the heavier items to maximize space. Following this order makes unloading easier and helps prevent damage to your belongings.

It is not difficult to drive a U-Haul truck or other rental truck, and you don’t need an additional license on top of a standard government-issued driver’s license in most cases. However, those unaccustomed to driving large vehicles may have difficulty adjusting to the maneuverability of a rental truck. Parking can also be more difficult.

Hot tubs are very difficult to transport to a different location. For reference, a standard hot tub weighs about 800 pounds. This job requires several people, plus the necessary equipment and safety measures to ensure a safe delivery. That’s why it’s usually best to leave it to a team of moving professionals.

Most professional movers can provide a wide range of moving-related services, and you’ll need to pick and choose which ones you want to use. Examples of common services offered include the following:

  • Organizing and packing your belongings

  • Protecting delicate items with bubble wrap or other protective equipment

  • Moving your belongings and furniture out of your old home

  • Moving your belongings into your new home within a certain distance

  • Unpacking your belongings in the new location

  • Moving heavy items, like pianos

  • Moving your vehicles

  • Storage if your new home isn’t ready
