"I hired Osorio Irrigation to install a lawn sprinkler system in June of 2022 and it was the best investment ever. My lawn is green and growing well despite the extremely hot summer season. Will and his team neatly installed a 40 sprinkler head and underground hose system to adequately water nearly an acre of land . The job was done neatly and efficiently. It was obvious that the workers had installed sprinkler systems many times over . This company used top of the line equipment and finished the job in a day! I highly recommend using Osorio for your Irrigation needs"

Horsey Irrigation Services was born in Connecticut with a simple idea: irrigation service should feel like a favor from a good neighbor, not just another transaction with a contractor.\n\nAfter more than 15 years working with irrigation systems across homes, condominium associations, and commercial properties throughout New England, William Quintanilla decided to found Horsey Irrigation Services together with his partner Oliver Arias to do things their way: with real quality, fair pricing, and direct communication with every client.\n\nWe are not an anonymous company with a distant call center. When you call us, you talk to William or to Oliver. When we arrive at your property, we arrive with the same truck, the same crew, and the same values we've carried since day one.

"HONEST & RELIABLE. I had a problem with my in the ground sprinkler. One company came and was ready to charge me for things that I did not need. American Irrigation arrived on time and found the minor glitch in my system. They were honest and courteous. What a relief in a time of consumer rip-offs!"

"HAVING MISSED THE INITIAL APTMNT DUE TO RAINY WEATHER; HE APOLOGIZED IMMEDIATELY AND SET UP ANOTHER APPOINTMENT. HE ASKED IF ID BE HOME IN THE LATE AFTERNOON THE SAME DAY I TELEPHONED. I SAID YES, DESCRIBED DIRECTIONS TO MY RESIDENCE AND HE ARRIVED READY FOR THE TASK. HE AND HIS ASSISTANT WERE DILIGENT IN MOWING, ETC AS THE LAWN WAS HIGH IN LENGTH. ONCE COMPLETED HE ASKED ME TO LOOK AROUND FOR APPROVAL OR ANY MISSED GRASS AREAS. HE THANK ME FOR THE BUSINESS AND WILL BE HAPPY TO RETURN. VERY PROFESSIONAL"

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

While hydroseeding is typically meant for bare soil, it is possible to hydroseed over an existing lawn with some adjustments. For the new seed to germinate and thrive, it needs good seed-to-soil contact. Without it, most of the seed may not take root and will die. To improve your chances of success when repairing a patchy area, mow any existing grass as low as possible and loosen any exposed soil before application. It is also recommended to use a finer mulch mixture when spraying, as this will help the seeds reach the soil and root without suffocating the existing grass.

Soaking grass seeds in water before seeding is called pre-germinating. It’s not necessary but can be very helpful in some cases. Some grasses like are very slow to germinate, and basic seeding on the ground is unlikely to be effective—that’s especially true of cool season grasses like Kentucky bluegrass, rye grasses, and Bermuda grass. Soaking these seeds in a bag or bin of water for one to four days beforehand can give the grass the start it needs to survive.

The best grass type for shady areas depends on your region, your preferences, and your yard’s microclimate. Overall, the best cool-season grass for shade is ryegrass or tall fescue, while the best warm-season grass for shade is St. Augustine. But again, this can depend on what you’re looking for in the grass. The best grass for your shady yard might be one that looks good to you, one that tolerates high foot traffic, or grass with other characteristics that make it fit your lawn needs.

If your grass is stressed from being over-trimmed, try watering it heavily and then allowing it to recover for at least two weeks before mowing again. If you notice brown patches where the grass has died off because it’s too short, you should remove the dead grass and overseed the area. Leaving dead patches can invite weeds and other problems, so if you want a totally green lawn, getting rid of dead patches should include removing the dead sections before reseeding the area.

Too much clover in your lawn can indicate several issues with your soil. Clover can thrive in soils with abnormally high pH, low-cut grass, and low nitrogen. Amending these issues can push clover out for good.

Hardy perennial clover loves the low nitrogen and compact conditions that often come with poor, infertile soils. But other factors also contribute to a clover explosion, including drought conditions, cool temperatures, under fertilization, and over-irrigation. You’ll need to evaluate all these elements when planning to kill off the clover.
