"The company rep was knowledgeable and hard-working, he even worked with me to get around some technical issues before he started the install. I do wish there would have been a follow up and more education with the “how-to” of the test that I had to set up and send in to ensure that the unit is working properly. All in all, I would recommend Affordable Radon Services for radon mitigation installation."

"All Colorado Radon tackled a particularly difficult radon mitigation that other companies refused to mitigate. They were very thorough and knowledgeable. Most of all, they were successful in reducing radon levels to well below government standards. We would use them again."

"BIG shout out to North Point Radon! We had to re-do some radon mitigation on the house so we could start working on framing in the basement and they came in and did an incredible job. The pressure from the pump (or however you say it) went up from 1.1 to 1.25, so they filled in a bunch of spaces that weren't sealed up properly and cleaned everything up so our contractor can start framing. No big chunks of puffy foam - everything is sealed cleanly and nice and tight now (obvious from the reading on the pressure). Fast, affordable, effective, and we retested the basement and it came at less than 1%. Seriously good people. I would call them if you need any radon stuff (testing, mitigation, etc.) taken care of."

"Jason went above and beyond, installing my system in a non-standard location that resulted in (1) drawing air from the center of the foundation as my radon level was quite high at 27 pCi/l (2) located pipes such that they are barely visible to any common areas inside or outside my home, and (3) located the fan away from common areas outside (so it cannot be heard). He ran the pipe from the mechanical room downstairs, up to the attic, and through the attic out the roof gable, placing the fan up near the roof. Just got results back at 1.4 pCi/l. I couldnt be happier. Jason is also knowledgeable, efficient, friendly and professional. I talked with 2 other contractors who would not do the job as I desired. He cost me a little more, and was worth every penny."

"John did a great job. Our radon went down way more than I expected, to almost nothing. There were a couple of blips along the way, and they did everything to fix things with no trouble to me at all. I would highly recommend."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Use a radon test kit or hire professionals to conduct a detailed assessment of radon levels in your home.

The lifespan of a radon mitigation system depends on the type of system and its maintenance. With proper care, a system can last for many decades. Passive systems tend to last longer as they have fewer components that require replacement. Active systems, which have more moving parts like fans, generally have a shorter lifespan. For instance, water filtration devices and active pressurization systems require more frequent maintenance. While the system as a whole is durable, the radon fan in an active system typically has a lifespan of 5 to 10 years and will need to be replaced. As long as the fan is working, the mitigation system should function correctly.

The average radon mitigation system uses about 876 kWh of electricity per year, although the exact amount of electricity used will vary depending on the size of the radon fan. Once the system is installed, the annual increase to your energy bill could range from $30 to $300 per year, again depending on the size of the fan.

The cost for a radon mitigation system typically ranges from $800 to $1,500, with an average around $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the severity of the radon issue, and the type of system required. Your home's foundation type also significantly impacts the cost. For example, sealing and ventilating an unfinished basement might cost around $4,600, while encapsulating a crawl space without a foundation slab can range from $1,500 to $15,000.

Keeping radon from getting into your home is much better than having to get rid of it once it's already indoors. While there may not be a way to fully prevent radon from getting into your home, there are things you can do to reduce the gas's ability to enter.

Sealing foundation cracks and openings can help keep the gas from seeping inside. Improving air flow, such as by opening windows, can also be helpful. If you're building your home from scratch, talk to your contractor about using radon-resistant construction to keep the gas out.
