"Extremely meticulous in all aspects of the stair project. I’m pretty handy around the house but I could never have come close to Dave’s expert carpentry skills. My steps are a definite focal point in my house now. Very pleasant personality and worked long hours to make sure we were satisfied with the finished stair case. He also gave me some helpful pointers while I was staining the treads. Dave offered to do them with the project but I did them myself. Stair doctor is worth every penny!!"

"I first hired Daniel and his team to scrape my front yard to get it ready for spring planting, and to plant four new trees. They did such a good job, I was thrilled to hire them right away to build a new retaining wall in my 100-year old house basement. They worked within the timeframe I needed them to, as I also was working with another company to replace my furnace. The wall came out better than I could have imagined! When I had some leakage problems with my sprinkler system, they came and worked on that, as well as replaced an old valve. They went above and beyond on my multiple projects. Daniel and his team are pros! I highly recommend them and look forward to using their services again! Thank you D&D!"

"Tim and Crystal were both great to work with. They showed up on time every time, made commitments and lived up to those commitments. We had problems with our old door while waiting on the delivery of the custom order door and Tim came out and did a temporary repair without charging anything. When the door came in he moved up the date for the install. I highly recommend using them for any garage door repair or replacement."

"My husband and I had been putting off painting our house for years. We became experts at driving around neighborhoods pointing at other homes and saying, ?Maybe someday!? That day finally came when my husband took one look at our house and declared, ?That?s it?we have to paint!? After getting several bids, finding this company felt like an answer to prayer. They were kind, professional, easy to work with, and accommodating to our schedule. They listened carefully to our ideas and transformed the inspiration photos we shared into something even better than we imagined. The quality of their work, attention to detail, and craftsmanship exceeded our expectations. Our home looks absolutely beautiful. A home is more than a building?it?s where your family lives, loves, rests, and finds peace. Thanks to this team, we are genuinely excited every time we pull into our driveway. We couldn?t be happier with the result and highly recommend these guys!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

For maximum stability, install grab bars on wall studs, as this will adequately support the weight. However, if you don't have access to studs, you can get by with wall anchors. If opting for the latter, choose specialty hollow wall anchors.

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.

No rules state how much of a load-bearing wall can be removed. Rather, you need to adequately support any area that is removed. Support should always be added to as much wall area is being removed. Failing to support the area properly will result in structural damage.
