Customers say: True professional

"I enjoyed our first meeting—in which Chuck asked good questions and listened closely to my answers—and after seeing the early sketches I decided to go ahead with the project. Chuck began by exploring the existing house, making measurements, studying details, and doing numerous sketches. His enthusiasm for the project was encouraging. We collaborated frequently as he developed detailed plans and had them professionally reviewed. The plans moved easily through the permitting process, and they impressed the contractor and his subs once work began: I heard many times that the architect’s drawings and notes were more clear and complete than those they are used to working with. Chuck stayed involved throughout the project, helping me make decisions and offering creative solutions to the small difficulties that arose."

"Michael Byron, Atlas LLC Design and Development Services, Denver, CO 80210, 303-263-2665, is truly a breath of fresh air when dealing with a contractor/service provider. Although I have not known Michael for a long period of time, from the first conversation I knew that I was dealing with an ethical and caring person. Prior to hiring Michael I had spoken to several Architects, and not only did I find them to be curt, bothered, but they were not forthcoming with their ideas, and once I received their bids for my addition/remodeling project, I realized that they were at the very top tier of any professional with their high costs (go ahead check for yourself---staggering). Anyway, back to Atlas LLC., so Michael was very patient, extremely thorough during the entire process making sure that the design was fully thought out in appearance, function, and costs. Michael was also hired to obtain the necessary structural design and drawings from an Engineer that he works with. This is extremely important at a time when the trades are very busy, he kept things on track and coordinated the process. Michael was very good with the communication, and continued to assist with building officials as needed on the road to completion and permit approval. Okay, Michael sounding pretty good right? Now, about me this was not my first go round, I am a successful real estate agent 25+ years in the Denver metro area. I have had dozens of my own projects, and have participated with clients in hundreds. Michael has made a very stressful process---construction in the middle of a move, much more tolerable, and I will gladly refer him to anyone in need of Design Services for their next project or remodel. Customers say: Quick response

"I recently worked with Don to renovate my home in Boulder and am very pleased with the outcome. He has vision and can see possibilities that add value and bring out the best elements of both the property and the home. Don worked carefully with me to design my home to complement my lifestyle and to reflect my aesthetic, creating open spaces, "hidden" storage, and modernizing the overall look and feel. He was especially helpful in integrating indoor and outdoor spaces: extending views, unleashing natural light, and enhancing outdoor spaces with subtle lighting. At my request he also offered suggestions for potential colors and ways to use new and existing furniture to enhance, and be in proportion with, the spaces we created. I am convinced that many of my home's favorite features and details exist because Don took the time to see, and to enable me to see, the possibilities. Prior to purchasing and renovating this house, I hired Don to "review" three other homes that I was seriously considering purchasing. He was able to see possibilities as well as to point out deal breakers. Working with Don in this capacity helped me to educate myself about renovations, articulate what I wanted, and kept me from making purchases that would not have been as optimal as the one I ultimately purchased and now call home. If you are looking for an architect that can really add value through design, talk with Don."

Small jobs welcome

"My wife and I had the pleasure of working with Matthew Krick, the owner of Krick Design Build, on the design of our detached garage and I couldn't be happier with the results. Matthew was the perfect fit for our project as he has a wealth of experience in various residential and commercial projects and offers a proven track record of success. His design style was in line with our personal preferences and the overall style of our home, which was important to us. Throughout the project, Matthew showed excellent communication skills and was able to effectively understand our vision and needs. He was professional, organized, and has a strong attention to detail, which made the entire process stress-free for us. Another important factor for me was budget awareness, and Matthew did not disappoint. He created designs that were both aesthetically pleasing and financially feasible, which was a huge relief. Matthew also has a good understanding of local building codes, regulations, and construction methods, which was evident in the final design. Finally, Matthew was always available to answer my questions and address any concerns we had throughout the project. We couldn't have asked for a better architect to work with, and I highly recommend Matthew to anyone in need of a talented and reliable residential architect."

"Ellen was such a great partner for working on our remodel! It was complicated, our house is old and nothing is square, but Ellen really showed up and was always on top of making changes needed. She also took into account the style of house while keeping an eye to modernity. I have found a lot of folks talking about renovation of older homes trying to shoehorn in modernity when none is needed; or at least, not listening to their clients - Ellen was the opposite. She listened, ideated, and crafted with an eye to the era."

"Designed a complete remodel of the back porch enclosure on my house. Easy to work with. He came and checked it out before I had a survey done(didn’t know i needed one). Survey was scheduled out 3 weeks so he offered to come take measurements for a fee and then he could get started. I accepted and a week or so later we had our plan. When the survey was completed the updated Schematic hardly changed. Wonderful job."

"Samuel was great to work with. After completing another remodel project where I was not overly happy with my architect, I began reaching out to find a one for a new project. Samuel was great throughout the entire process, listening to what we needed, providing options and doing live editing sessions. Will 100% be using his company again for my future projects."

Architects questions, answered by experts

Renaissance-style architecture predates Italianate architecture and serves as an inspiration for many elements of the Italianate style. Renaissance architecture adheres to the rules of classical architecture, while Italianate architecture adds elements that served to modernize the Renaissance style for the Victorian era and allow this style of home to be produced in a range of sizes to be attainable for various budgets.

Whether you’re building a new home or building an extension on your existing property, you will likely need both a structural engineer and an architect. A structural engineer will determine what loads your foundation and framing can safely handle, and an architect will draw plans according to those structural calculations to simplify the building process. You can start by contacting a structural engineer near you, as many work alongside architects and can get all of the prep work done at once.

In the United States, architects must be licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia before being allowed to practice or seek business. Licensing requirements vary state-to-state, but overall the architect must be educated, attain a certain level of experience, submit to and pass an examination, and register as an architect. Find out if your architect is licensed using Angi’s contractor licensing search tool

While classic Palm Springs architecture in the Palm Springs area will naturally cost more due to the high cost of living, prices across the rest of the country will vary. Remember that older homes, including those built before 1970, will cost more to renovate due to updated building codes—something to keep in mind when considering the upfront cost of the house.

A structural engineer's report provides a professional assessment of a property's structural condition. It typically includes an evaluation of the foundation, key structural elements like roof trusses, floor joists, studs, beams, and rafters. The report will also contain a detailed description of the engineer's findings, often supported by photographs, and provide recommendations to correct any identified issues. Depending on the scope of the inspection, it might also include an assessment of property drainage, potential issues from environmental conditions like extreme weather or tree placement, and an estimated time and cost for any recommended repairs.
