"Precision Service and Maintenance is by far the best Pool/Spa service I have used for our in ground hot tub in Colorado. Our heater blew up and Josh was quick on the scene with a plan. Precision Service is just that; knowledgeable, dependable and fairly priced. Josh does exactly what he says he is going to do, which is a rare commodity these days."

"Josh is very responsive and helpful. He helped us solve a problem and have advice for the future but also did not try to up sell us and let us know what was not needed. He replaced our pool pump and gave us options and pros & cons for each. We had a leak a week later and he came right out and fixed it (a pipe just needed to be tightened). I feel comfortable going to him with future concerns."

"Alan is my pool service professional. Started first week in May 2021. He is polite, courteous, conscientious with excellent work ethics, timely to schedule and very knowledgeable about pool care. First visit Alan spent over an hour servicing and cleaning. Now he averages about 30-45 minutes. Previous pool services always rushes, spending an average of 25 minutes leaving my pool very shabby looking and uninviting. Told Alan of my family reunion to take place Fourth of July and he got my pool ready for party by Memorial Day! My pool is now cleaned to my standards and sparkling! I will highly recommend AM pool service to anyone who has a pool that needs care done right!"

Pool and Spa Servicing questions, answered by experts

If water is left inside the hot tub pump over a cold winter, it could freeze and severely damage the pump, water lines, and jets. That can cause leaks, which require very expensive repairs. Freezing or leftover water can stain and damage the hot tub shell, which leads to replacement. Even in mild climates, leaving sitting water in the tub or pipes for a long period of unuse is a bad idea, since disinfecting chemicals fade and the water can develop bacteria, algae, and other big headaches when it’s time to use the tub again.

Yes, hot tubs can use a significant amount of electricity, primarily to keep the water heated. A typical hot tub uses between 1,500 and 6,000 watts, and the pump can add another 1,500 watts. This usage can result in a monthly cost of around $20 to $30. The exact amount of electricity consumed depends on several factors, including the hot tub's age, size, heater voltage (120V vs. 240V), usage habits, and thermostat setting. Newer, energy-efficient models generally use less power than older ones. To reduce electricity costs, consider investing in an energy-efficient model, using a quality insulated cover with a thermal blanket, and keeping the filters clean.

In most cases, it is safe to clean a hot tub with vinegar. You will want to verify that your hot tub manufacturer lists vinegar as a safe cleaning product; however, given that vinegar is chemical-free, cleans, deodorizes, and is safe for people and pets, it is usually a good option. You can use vinegar to clean the hot tub shell, interior and exterior spa surfaces, hot tub jets, hot tub filter, and other parts. It is considered a strong, safe, and natural cleanser that can kill bacteria, remove mold and mildew spores, erase water spots, and remove hard water stains.

The best thing with which to clean a hot tub is whatever the manufacturer recommends; in most cases, this is a gentle surface cleaner and a soft cloth. Recommended hot tub cleaners can include specially formulated cleaning agents, mild dish soap, baking soda, vinegar, or diluted bleach. For your hot tub exterior, choose wood or vinyl cleaner (depending on the casing material).

You should never use household cleaning products, harsh chemicals such as undiluted bleach or acids, or abrasive cleansers or cloths, as these can scratch or etch your hot tub’s coating or shell and cause permanent damage.

If you want to have a chemical-free spa, or if you are wondering how to keep your hot tub clean naturally, there are several options. Some individuals choose to run their hot tub without treatment at all and simply clean it more often (although you risk bacteria, fungi, and algae growth if you take this route); others use natural products like vinegar or Borax. Ozone, ultraviolet light, and electrolysis systems are also eco-friendly ways to have a clean hot tub without chemicals. Saltwater hot tubs are popular with people who are sensitive to chlorine, bromine, and other traditional hot tub chemicals.
