Small jobs welcome

"The Western Slope Cleaning Service responded immediately, way before any other business replied to my request for tree removal and carport repair. Lorenzo and George arrived to my property the same day, provided a reasonable estimate before departing. Sent me a written estimate in under 30 minutes, which I approved. Lorenzo and his crew began the next day, despite having to battle chilly and rainy weather. They stuck it out and finished removing two large trees, pressure washed two metal carports, sealed one carport and removed two gate posts for me. The crew did an excellent job cleaning up the site. They were all very polite, cordial and very professional. I will continue to utilize WSCS for a large list of projects needed on my property. Thank you Lorenzo, great job!"

"I hired B & S Excavation, in order to do a few jobs around my farm. Iâ  m trying to subdivide my place, and I needed to find someone who could bring a new water line into the property, and then separate the house and barn water. First job: Excavate a 1,540 ft trench, in order to bring a new water line in for my barn building. Then, connect the new line to the house, leaving the old line for the barn. Second job: Excavate another large ditch, in order to change some water line piping for the existing water well lines. Third job: Repairing a 12â  underground irrigation transmission line that had previously been damaged when the Elevate internet service was installed. Overall, I found Brandon and his team extremely easy to work with on my jobs. He took time to consult with me on every step of the way. If he was unclear on an issue, heâ  d drop everything in order to discuss things with me. Excavation work was done on a timely basis, although the weather interrupted the job at times. The team worked through some really bad weather days, which speaks to me of their dedication to their job. I was extremely impressed about Brandonâ  s ability to clean up the areas on my place that had been excavated. His skid steer work was excellent! You could hardly tell where he had worked, by the time he was done. Brandon did a fantastic job of communicating with me on the phone, especially when we were first discussing the job. He made sure to keep me in the loop, especially if he couldnâ  t make it out to my place for one reason or another. Good communication is key for me, and Brandonâ  s company always excelled in this area. The invoice totals I was charged for in this job were more than fair! Brandon and his team did many extras on the job, which werenâ  t always reflected on my bill. Since my funds were somewhat limited, I was really happy that he worked to give me a fair bill for the work heâ  d done. Overall, I cannot express how fully my expectations were met and exceeded by B & S Excavation! Wonderful people to work with! Professional, dedicated, and they really stand behind the work that they do. I will definitely hire them again, if I need excavation jobs done on my place in the future!"

"Would recommend Grover excavating for any of your excavating needs. Pete was very prompt and professional. Took out a large tree from my back yard. Removing the stump was a challenge that he met very well. There was minimal disruption to the rest of my yard. I will hire him for any future needs."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

If you don’t wish to dig it out and convert it into a finished basement, you can still encapsulate your crawl space to protect it from damage for an average cost of $5,500. Finishing a crawl space beyond this isn’t really worthwhile, as the low ceilings mean you won’t be able to use the area as living space.

How deep your septic system needs to be into the ground depends on several factors. In extremely cold environments, the tank needs to rest below the maximum frost line, which can be up to six or eight feet deep. The standard burying depth for most systems is between a few inches and four feet below ground level. Depth can also depend on the slope of the landscaping and other property variables.

Most residential basements are 8 to 10 feet deep. You can dig deeper depending on building codes, but it does become more difficult. You’ll likely need to install stronger foundation walls and additional supports to handle the increased load. Depending on the water table, you may also need a water management system. Clay soil can support a deeper foundation than sandy soil. A structural engineer will be able to tell you the maximum, feasible depth.

Slab foundations are more affordable than crawl spaces because they require minimal excavation, as the slab sits directly on the ground or on footers that only sink a few feet into the ground. Crawl spaces require excavation of the entire footprint of the home to several feet below the surface. Not only does that mean higher labor costs, but more materials are necessary for the concrete foundation walls.

A joint utility trench, or joint trench, is a long, buried ditch on a property that contains two or more utility lines rather than running the lines in multiple trenches. Some utilities, like gas and electric or electric and communication lines, are better suited to joint trenching, while others, like water and sewer, are not allowed to be in the same trench.
