"There were traffic and accidents so he came after the scheduled appointment time by about 20 minutes. He kept having to leave to get more tools. At one point there was a young woman in his van just sitting there in my culdesac for at least half an hour while he worked. He let my glass front door slam shut each time he came in or out. At one point the handle fell off, which it often does, but he jammed it back together improperly so my husband and I had to pry that apart to be able to put it back on so that our door would close again. He left the parts that he cut out of the main line in our basement instead of taking them out with him when we actually had a dumpster in the driveway that he could have easily used. He didn't introduce himself or who he was with when he came up. My husband opened the door and said hi, this guy said hi, and then he asked to see where the back up was. He said that our main line inside our house needed to be replaced so we're getting a second opinion on that but the line is no longer backing up into the bathroom or the basement so he did do what he needed to for the call but I wish he had cleaned up after himself. He also parked improperly, sticking out from our driveway for the whole time he was here when he should have parked against the curb so as not to block any of my neighbors. No one had trouble getting in or out that I've been told but there was no reason for him to park like that when there was space available."

"We highly recommend Dr. Drain. Jordan was extremely responsive to our calls and showed up on time. While we are not plumbing experts, we could tell that the quality of the work was excellent and we were charged a very fair price. In dealing with Jordan on several different occasions, it was clear to us that he places great emphasis on customer service and conducts himself in a highly professional manner."

"This all began with Zach checking our ancient Warm Morning wall heater while he was here to do a yearly maintenance check on our Rinnai water heater. We were startled when he got a reading of 45 on his carbon monoxide meter close to the heater vent - he suggested we replace the heater right away as this was not safe at all. He was gracious enough to find us a new wall heater immediately, and Brady and Dylan came back the very next day to remove the old heater and put in the new one. They worked hard all day and did a good job. Brady and Zach came back five days later to cut a vent into our bedroom and also went the extra mile to put in extra rubber gaskets and padding to relieve some rattling and mitigate as much of the noise as possible. We are relieved to be coughing less, breathing better, and to have a good heater that works well for our needs. These guys were kind, professional, and very careful about keeping our home clean, especially when removing our old heater that was full of soot - they did a great job and we are pleased with the results. Docked half a star only due to some confusion with the invoice and not clearly giving a breakdown of costs for the heater itself and for labor and installation, but overall, a job well done! Thank you all!"

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Simple blockages can be cleared using household plungers or manual snakes, provided no severe plumbing issues exist.

Sewer gas in any location can cause eye and respiratory irritation if you’re exposed at low levels, or more severe symptoms if you’re exposed at high levels—but fortunately, the fresh air outside means it’s less likely to affect your physical health. However, sewer smells outside can still indicate significant plumbing problems that will need to be dealt with, such as a potentially damaged sewer line or roof vent pipe.

That pungent rotten egg smell coming from your drain is likely the buildup of biofilm—hair, skin, and soap scum that turns into a black sticky mess. In this case, pouring down near-boiling water, baking soda, and white vinegar will remove the smell. Keep in mind that a rotten egg smell is occasionally a sign of larger sewage line clogs and other related issues.

A two-way cleanout can help if there’s already a clog, but the best strategy to prevent one is by not rinsing grease, oil, or fat down your drains, not flushing or rinsing coffee grounds or egg shells down your drains, flushing only human waste and toilet paper (so no diapers, period products, bathroom wipes, or paper towels), and using drain guards on all of your drains.

It can take anywhere from half an hour to a few hours to fix a main line clog, depending on the cause and severity of it. The job should not take more than a day to complete. Keep in mind that the main line is not the same as your home’s sewer lines (which connect to the main line and run to your house). Your city is responsible for any clogs or damage to the main line itself.
