Customers say: Terrific value

"Francisco Garcia did an excellent job finishing our basement. The work quality is excellent. The communication and flexibility throughout the project was excellent. The project finished on time within budget with zero surprises. Any concerns that arose were addressed expeditiously and professionally. I highly recommend Colorado Paradise Builders for your next project. The building inspections were coordinated by Colorado Paradise Builders and passed easily. We learned while talking to the inspectors that we had a gift by using Francisco as a general contractor. They mentioned other people in the business may not provide the level of customer service and professionalism which Colorado Paradise Builders demonstrated on our basement finishing project. I could not be more enthusiastic with a recommendation."

"From the beginning of the project, Conrad and John were very helpful. We were selling our home and during an inspection found that there was damage to the roof that we didn't know about. Our insurance adjuster recommended a new roof for the house. This was the first time we had ever filed a claim against our home owners policy so we were a little stressed by that. Conrad and John explained their process and how they would proceed. Even with the stress of a first time claim and the sale of the home, we had no stress from the completion of the work. Even our real estate agent spoke with Conrad during the process and told us that she was very impressed with the level of communication from them. They did a great job and the house closed on time with happy new buyers."

"I was very pleased with the bathroom remodel. Everything was done when Dan said it would be done and the cost was just what he estimated. The bathroom is now handicap accessible and is beautiful too. I am so pleased that I decided to continue the tile floor into the utility room and later into the kitchen. He did beautiful work with the tile. I highly recommend DCL!"

Barndominium Builders questions, answered by experts

It is almost always more affordable to buy an existing home than to build a new one. Building a home involves numerous costs, including labor, permits, inspections, utility hookups, and brand-new materials, finishes, and appliances. Additionally, new construction loans can have higher interest rates than traditional mortgages, and property taxes on new homes are often higher, increasing long-term costs. An exception is a DIY house build, which can be cheaper than buying an existing home if you do the labor yourself. While building is generally more expensive, a new custom home offers complete control over the layout and design. Furthermore, new construction is typically worth more than a comparable pre-owned home and may provide a better return on investment if sold quickly.

You don’t typically need a permit to build a shed, but it’s best to check with your local city clerk to make sure before you start the project. Every town, city, and municipality can have different rules when it comes to any home improvement project. Homeowners associations sometimes have restrictions on the materials you can use on your property as well.

This answer varies based on where you are, but most states require that all homes are greater than 320 square feet. Remember that four walls are not the only requirements—windows, closet space, minimal ceiling heights, and indoor air quality are also factors. Each state and municipality differs, though, and as some don’t consider tiny homes permanent shelters, you’ll need to check to ensure you aren’t violating any local or state laws with your build.

You may need a local building permit and written permission from your homeowner’s association to install a shed, especially if you’re doing any substantial land clearing or installing electricity or plumbing. Permit requirements vary between municipalities, so research the local laws before starting your project. If you hire a contractor to build the shed, they can help determine which permits will be necessary.

The lifespan of a barn is typically 40 to 60 years, but with skillful construction and proper maintenance, it can last up to 100 years. The actual lifespan depends on several factors, including the barn type, materials, usage, and climate. For example, the posts of a pole barn should last 50 years or longer, but if the structure is used for livestock in a rainy climate, it may rot within the first decade. Custom designs with high-end materials tend to last the longest. To get the best estimate for your barn's lifespan, you should consider its material type and intended use.
