Jim Johnson is an exceptional builder and honest businessman. You can tell he does this work because he loves it and genuinely wants his work to be the highest quality. He was referred to me by a co-worker with very high standards, and I am so grateful we were able to have his team do our addition and remodel. We have an older home and needed more space, so we added a bedroom above the garage and connected the new space to the existing home. We also remodeled most rooms, including a full kitchen expansion and remodel, new floors throughout, all new electrical wiring, HVAC, interior and exterior paint, plumbing upgrades (and moved a bathroom), and we added a front porch. There were problems along the way, which you'd expect with a project of this size, but Jim did his best to stay within the agreed-upon timeline. Every problem or decision was discussed in a transparent and collaborative way, and his suggestions saved us from future headaches. We now have a solid home that is well-designed and functional. From the big items such as the flow of a new room, down to the motion-detecting lights he suggested for our driveway...no detail is overlooked by Jim, Harvey, and the team. With Jim, you get a builder who is extremely knowledgeable, available, creative, trustworthy, and best of all, he does what he says he will do. It's not easy to find these qualities in a builder.

The overall experience with Texas Select Builders was amazing. From the first phone call to the final day on site, Jim was a true professional. Nearly every day of the weeks long job, Jim (TSB owner), checked in at the site and had some sort of communication with me as to what was happening that day and the days to come. Jim and his team of professionals were on time, hard working, and polite. The job was started earlier than expected, and was completed faster than quoted, with impeccable quality. The new office I now have is exactly what I wanted, and TSB brought it to life. Highly recommend Texas Select Builders for any sort of general contract work.

Jim with TSB was one of 3 contractors we brought in to quote what amounted to $90k of renovations for our home in Grand Lakes. Our scope was a Kitchen and Masterbath remodel, with fresh painting throughout. We commissioned Jim for the work based on his estimate, which was competitive, along with the fact that he was the only contractor who provided a time estimate for the project. We were pleased to discover that by hiring Jim, we received the trifecta of a project that was of good quality and workmanship, was delivered on time, and delivered on budget. A few instances occurred where Jim's expertise was a big asset to our project. We were short a few bricks to finish up some exterior work, and with the bricks originally used on the home being discontinued, Jim knew a business that still kept a few in stock, allowing us to finish our project with a perfect match. Jim also kept open lines of communication with us, so we knew what was coming up each week and what selections needed to be finalized. My last recommendation for anyone considering to hire Jim, or anyone, for their renovation project, is to consider the lead times for some of the items you wish to order. Lots of supply chains are disrupted right now, which means if there's a particular sink, appliance, light fixture, or faucet that you want in your project, consider ordering early to ensure you get what you want. And lastly, thank you Jim. Our home is beautiful thanks to the efforts of you and your crews.

I am very happy with my master bath remodel, so I'm excited to share my positive, but accurate, experience with Texas Select Builders. My experience with Jim Johnson and Texas Select builders was excellent. I have purchased and flipped/renovated a dozen homes. I know the headaches from using a variety of different types of contractors. That's why when we decided to renovate our master bath, and I wanted a great contractor. here's the five reasons why I think Texas Select Builders was so great: 1. Documentation - Everything was well-documented UP FRONT. All the materials, details, pricing, etc etc was contained in a written contract. I knew what to expect, but they put it in writing. We went back and form several times before committing to them, and it was a good process to allow us to make sure we both agreed an everything. It's not common to find general contractors who are so meticulous about getting their paperwork right, and having it done so professionally. 2. Schedule = They started when they said they would start, and they completed it when they said they would complete it. This is one of their master rules. They will always stay to their contract schedule. They have too many other important customers to get to, and they can't afford your job to be delayed because that means the others will be delayed. Furthermore, they gave me an up front schedule of payments in writing. They told me exactly when they would ask for payments, and they kept to the schedule. 3. Price - Their price was right. I obtained five bids for my job. Some were from Home Advisor, some were not. Texas Select Builders was not the cheapest, but they were lower than some of the highest bids. Because of my rehab experience, I knew what to expect in terms of price, and Texas Select Builders was right in the sweet spot. I have only one master bath for the rest of my life, and I wanted to make sure it was quality. I didn't want to select the cheapest because I didn't want the cheapest quality. 4. Quality - The quality of their work was outstanding. Every little detail was attended to. They kept the dust to a minimum. All the tile was layed very very well. The one thing I liked about Texas Select Builders process was that they assigned ONE foreman/craftsman to my job, and he was the only one (with his helpers) who worked on my job. There was no series of sub contractors coming and going. There was no finger pointing. Our foreman, Juan, did it all. He did tile, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc. The only thing I recall him not doing was painting. Texas Select Builders has enough crews working that they have one excellent painter move from job to job. Other than that, Juan pretty much did it all, and he did it all really well. If I didn't like something, I had only one person to go to. The number of areas near the end of the job where I had to put blue tape to mark a problem needing fixing was pretty minimal. 5. Responsiveness - if I ever had a issue, question, etc. Jim Johnson would respond to an email or a text message very promptly. Sometimes he responded within minutes. In summary, when I started the process of our master bath remodel, I worried about how much headache, conflict, hassle, inconvenience, etc etc the project would be. I'm glad to say that Texas Select Builders did as well as about anyone could have to minimize those concerns. Would I recommend them? Of course, Yes.

My husband and I bought my parents home that was flooded during Harvey two years ago. We were put in touch with Jim by friends that had used him for previous remodel jobs. After interviewing several contractors it was clear that Jim with Texas Select Builders was the guy for us. From the very beginning he was extremely detailed, prompt and his communication was excellent. I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to do with the house, but without Jim's ideas and direction I don't think I would have been as happy with the end result. Jim helped us recreate our dream home by adding in ideas and pointing things out that I didn't think of. His years of experience definitely made a difference in our project. Also, due to his detailed nature, we had very few change orders and the project went exactly as expected with no major issues or surprises. The quality of the work is outstanding. All of his team is thorough, talented, detailed and kind. I have already recommended Texas Select Builders to several friends and Jim will be working on my parents new home as well. Hiring Jim Johnson / Texas Select Builders to remodel our kitchen was the best decision we could have made. Our remodel involved moving walls and columns, reconstructing counters, replacing countertops, sink and lighting, painting cabinets and installing tile. The project was completed on time and within budget without any surprises. What I loved was Jim’s ability to provide GREAT design advice and plenty of examples to help us fine tune our choices. He’s up front on honest and proved to be a phenomenal problem solver. His crew was friendly and courteous and his job foreman was wonderful as well. Jim was there for much of the process and was very communicative which made us feel very comfortable. We are so incredibly happy with end result! He turned our out-dated taupe, claustrophobic kitchen into the open, new and modern grey & white kitchen of our dreams. Saving like mad now so we can hire him to do the same for our master bath. They may not be the cheapest quote you’ll get but you’ll have your project completed to your satisfaction, on time and without any expensive surprises. I highly recommend Texas Select and will hire them again for our next project.

Flooring throughout the halls, bathrooms, living, kitchen and laundry rooms. Lighting in kitchen and above shower. The guys that worked on my house were reliable, trustworthy and very friendly. They did beautiful work and I would use this company again in a heartbeat! They started earlier than expected and finished a week earlier than expected!!
