"Our 25-year old garbage disposal died and backed up our kitchen sink. We needed it replaced quickly. Most companies we called were 2-4 days out. “At Your Service Plumbing” was able to come out that afternoon. The technician called and said he was running ahead of schedule and would it be OK for him to come early. We were happy to accommodate him. He quoted us a price before he started the project. The price was reasonable and we gave him the OK to proceed. He replaced the garbage disposal in a reasonable amount of time and addressed our questions and concerns throughout the process. When he completed the job, he ran the new garbage disposal and it was clear that the kitchen drain was also clogged and needed to be snaked. That was likely the problem all along. He quoted us a price to snake the drain that was based on completing the project within a 1-hour timeframe. He showed us what the price would be for each additional 15-minute interval. He was very upfront with the pricing and it seemed reasonable to us, so we gave him the OK to proceed. The clock didn’t start until he actually started snaking the drain. We were not charged for his time to bring in the equipment and disconnect the plumbing. It was a very difficult process and he ended up using two different snakes to get the job accomplished, but he was successful and completed the job within the 1-hour timeframe. He worked very diligently and efficiently. We were very satisfied with the end result and will certainly call them first the next time we have a plumbing issue."

"Within the last two years, we had used Proserve to repair our fridge and our hot water tank.  I had been very pleased with their staff, services, and fair pricing.  When one of our upstairs toilets stopped working, I decided to call Proserve to try their plumbing services.  I am extremely happy I did.

Sam and his son, Marshall, were sent on the call to our house.  I love these guys; they are the reason I did all these plumbing projects now.  They listen to what I want and suggest repairs that are functional and aesthetically pleasing while trying to keep my costs low.  They are extremely neat and clean up after their work; true professionals.

We bought our home, a foreclosed house, about two years ago from FNMA.  It was built in 1998 and the plumbing had not been updated or well maintained.   We knew it was time for plumbing updates and repairs.

Toilets and Flanges Replacement: They only charged me $200 per toilet replacement which included labor and the actual toilet. I have seen other plumbers advertise $190 for just the labor and you provide the toilet!  These are nice standard low flow toilets, which flush adequately with just one flush.

Of course, the flange replacements were not included in the $200.  They cleaned and disinfected during each step of the repairs.  Sam came on a Wednesday to do the estimate for the toilet replacements, and was able to come the next morning to do the work.
Outdoor Irrigation Pressure Regulator:  They replaced the pressure regulator for our irrigation system which had cracked during the winter.  They emphasized we should get an insulated cover to use during the winter months.

Roman Tub Faucet Replacement:  When the faucet handle of my Roman tub fell off, Lowes and Home Depot told me that I would have to remove the entire tub to gain access to the pipes or I would need to try to repair the old faucet by ordering parts from Moen.  I put this repair off for months.  When Sam did the toilets estimate, I asked him for advice about the Roman tub.  He noticed that the toilet closet was behind the Roman tub faucet.  He said he could cut into the toilet closet wall to access the Roman tub?s pipes and then put in a removable access panel so we could always have easy access to these pipes.  I liked his plan so we did it.  A few months ago, I put new faucets in the sinks of this bathroom.  Sam took photos then found me a Kohler Roman tub faucet to match the style of the sink faucets.  He created the access panel with an attractive removable cover and installed the new faucet; looks great.

Replace Kitchen Sink and Faucet:  This was a tricky installation as we have ceramic counter tops and I wanted a bigger deeper sink.  Sam and Marshall had to cut the ceramic tile, rework the under-sink plumbing, remove and reinstall the garbage disposal to
fit the larger new Kohler stainless steel sink into the cabinetry.  They did an amazing job that looks beautiful.
I am extremely pleased with the quality of work, materials, and fixtures that Sam and Marshall of ProServ provided me.  I think the pricing was fair for the amount of work done and the quality of the toilets, faucets, and sinks.  I plan to use their services again. I have already suggested my mother-in-law use them for her future plumbing repairs and would recommend them to my friends."

"Rocky Mountain Services has been fantastic to work with. I needed a chandelier installed and I have 13' ceilings with exposed duct work and electrical, so the quality of the job would be on full display. Everyone I dealt with at the company, from the first phone call to the electrician that did the actual install, were really professional and helpful. The actual install couldn't have gone smoother, the electrician was on-time, clean, polite, and professional. Rocky Mountain Services really went above and beyond to make sure that not only was everything technically correct, up to code, etc., but that it also looked great as well. They were so knowledgeable and I really appreciate their advice on placement, height it should hang, and so forth. I will absolutely use them again."

"

Saw a special offer on Angie’s List for a garbage disposal swap-out at a reasonable price ($99).  I had a 12-year-old disposal that was leaking, so knew it had to be replaced, and had already purchased a new, quieter one.  All’s I needed was a technician that could do the install. He arrived as scheduled and got the new unit installed with only a minor pipe modification. New disposal works great!

The offer required a pre-pay, which I was somewhat hesitant to do but trusted that Angie’s List wouldn’t have included this offer if it weren’t legit.  The work was done at the quoted price; no additional charges. BTW  I found the ‘preferred timeframe’ at signup wasn’t very helpful because it all depended on the times/days the tech had available. Fortunately, the email Angie’s List sent me had the technician’s name and number, so a simple call to him was all that was needed to set up the service call.

"I had a wonderful experience. The owner personally did the job at my home since his other technicians were out in the field. I needed a garbage disposal replaced. He got me in right away. Stinks having to use one side of the kitchen sink. I’m really big on Customer Service, and the owner’s customer service was exceptional. I referred him out to my manager at work who just purchased a home. Highly recommend. Even though the job seemed small and quick, the customer service and availability is what was vital to me. Thanks 5280"

"Darren informed us as part of the bidding process that it might not be a good idea to install vinyl on a shifting concrete basement floor. We did cancel the project but wanted to encourage others to use a tradesman with such integrity"

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

Garbage disposals can be considered bad for the environment due to their electricity usage, but good for the environment because they reduce the food waste sent to landfills. If everyone used a garbage disposal, it would tax the wastewater treatment facilities in that region, but if we had to choose one of the options, we’d say they are a net positive on the environment when used correctly.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

In some cases, it’s more cost-effective in the long run to replace a garbage disposal, but it depends on the specific issue you’re having and the age of your disposal. You should ask a garbage disposal repair tech for a quote to repair your appliance and then see if it would be more worthwhile to replace it. Additionally, garbage disposals last for around 15 years, so if you know your appliance is reaching that age, it’s likely better to pay for a new garbage disposal rather than sink money into repairs.

Your garbage disposal will only affect the health of your septic tank if you’re using it too frequently, or filling it with organic waste that doesn’t fully break down. If the tank fills up with too many solids, the bacteria won’t have enough time to consume it before more is added, which can lead to an overflow in the drain field. Your tank will need to be pumped more frequently with excessive or improper garbage disposal use.

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.
