"I truly enjoyed working with Shawn. â Shawn is professional and very courteous. The custom glass shower installation is perfect. This was a new project of this type for Shawn and he executed beautifully - he truly is a very skilled craftsman. Additionally, Shawn removed an old 70â s style bar (big and ugly) and finished out the bar area nicely. His competent helper Luis, tore out and rebuilt the dilapidated side walking deck that was previously installed without footers, now itâ s solid and safe. Shawn also did several other little projects for me as well which were all great. He even traveled a good deal to my job site. I would absolutely recommend him. Ensure you are clear about the work being done. We had a disconnect on the bathroom wall area that was not resolved, and its beyond my skill level to resolve it. I may not have understood as clearly as I should have regarding the extent of the work. Good communication is key with everyone."

"Nickky and her team where fantastic! She coordinate everything and was very responsive. The attention to detail was amazing and the renovation exceeded my expectations. The quality of work and finishes are perfect. I live out of state so having her help was exactly what I needed. Very affordable in comparison with other contractors in the area. I also didn t need to wait for several months to get job done. I highly recommend Summit Solutions for any project large or small."

"Dan Carlo has always exceeded my expectations. He shows up as promised. He presents me with a bid, and sticks with it. He has provided me with quality workmanship, and several of my projects involved old houses that required non-cookie-cutter solutions, which Dan navigated with ease. He's fair and honest and I will call on him again. A+ !!!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.
