"I asked Pat with Webb's Framing and Carpentry to give us an estimate for our deck. He came back with a very fair price and worked us into his schedule right away. We are so happy with our new deck and we had such a good experience with this company. They are fair, honest, professional, timely and they always cleaned up at the end of the day! We asked for a gate add on for our deck after he began working and he complied and still kept the project on schedule. I will only use Pat from now on for any carpentry projects and repairs. I highly recommend Webb's Framing and Carpentry, Inc. They do remarkable work!"

"I needed a quick turn around job and had difficulty finding someone until I met the owner of Perea Bros Construction. It's very difficult to find someone on such short notice who would be so efficient and professional. I highly recommend this company. I intend to use them again."

"Ken was able to repair my front and back decks in the time frame he gave me. He found several areas that needed attention that we had not seen when we started the project. He stuck with it and tried hard to stay within my budget. Very knowledgeable in his job and would definitely use his company again. Thanks Ken"

"I had Ryan come out to do some baseboards and trim, and ended up hiring him for four other projects along the way! He was polite, punctual, and professional. He did amazing work and offered suggestions for how to make the jobs even better. I would absolutely hire him again!"

"I had Andy build me custom barn doors for my office. The project required longer doors and I wanted to match my bookshelves. He used the highest quality wood and got the doors perfect. These are not your basic Home Depot barn doors, they are heavy, solid doors, each a little over 100lbs. And the fact that he was able to match the bookshelves was amazing. He does a through and profession job. I would trust him with any carpentry work I may need in the future."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

You can choose 5/8-inch plywood or 3/4-inch plywood—anything thinner than these sizes may not withstand the impact of debris propelled by strong winds or can be easily torn off by intruders. Remember that the durability of the wood board is crucial, particularly for safeguarding your windows during severe storms. The effectiveness of using wood boards for protecting the investment you made in your home relies on using the appropriate material and ensuring proper installation.

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.
