"Pat Webb and crew did an excellent job removing rotten wood trim around the windows of my 2-story house. They were attentive to keeping the workplace clean during and after work each day. They did a great job replacing the rotten wood trim with good quality cedar trim which was cut nicely to dimension for each window. They also replaced one piece of previously broken Hardiboard siding. Considering the amount of work done on ladders and standing on the sloped roof, the quality of their carpentry work and painting was very good. Pat communicated well with me in setting work days and hours and was prompt in sticking with those days & hours. Webb's final price was as originally quoted and I consider it a great value against another quote I received. I highly recommend Webb's Framing & Carpentry....and have already recommended Pat to a friend for a basement finish. Pat does quality workmanship !"

Customers say: Quick response

"Ken was able to repair my front and back decks in the time frame he gave me. He found several areas that needed attention that we had not seen when we started the project. He stuck with it and tried hard to stay within my budget. Very knowledgeable in his job and would definitely use his company again. Thanks Ken"

"Glad i hired Dan! Quick, professional, polite. He replaced a broken window in a three pane set. Matched the thickness and E-rating of the other two perfectly. Price was very fair."

"I had Andy build me custom barn doors for my office. The project required longer doors and I wanted to match my bookshelves. He used the highest quality wood and got the doors perfect. These are not your basic Home Depot barn doors, they are heavy, solid doors, each a little over 100lbs. And the fact that he was able to match the bookshelves was amazing. He does a through and profession job. I would trust him with any carpentry work I may need in the future."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.
