Finally, I added special mending plates on both sides for reinforcement, thus keeping this failure from happening again. Client was told the price upfront. "Sorry for the disappointment. We found the previous door installer had stripped the screws going into the frame, which was creating part of the problem with the door. We chose to leave the job and get the right hardware rather than jury-rig the repair and adjustment with the incorrect hardware. We did the extra trip and rework for no charge and still stayed at the original $300 quote made to her husband. After door was adjusted, she preapproved the installation of a $150 heavy duty latch. The job now totaled $450. She was very happy with work at final inspection and payment and never stated concern over price which was pre-defined. You judge?"
