"Top tier folks. Not my first time using them and certainly not the last. They are timely, very nice, reasonable with pricing, and do fantastic work. 10/10 recommend these folks for any drywall work you need done around your home. Great with texture matching work as well. Will be installing a barn door for one of our bathrooms. I removed the door and door jambs and they filled it in and sealed it off as well as texture matching the rest of the wall. Night and day difference. If you’re in the Denver area, you be wrong to go with anyone other Compatible Drywall Co."

"I hired Founder's Renovation to replace a bathtub, repair the surrounding walls, and tile the shower, and I’m very happy with how everything turned out. Thomas was easy to work with, explained what needed to be done in plain terms, and didn’t try to upsell or overcomplicate anything. The tub install was clean, the wall repairs blended in nicely, and the tile work looks great. He showed up when he said he would and kept the area tidy, which I really appreciated. Overall, solid work, fair pricing, and no stress. I would definitely call Founder's Renovation again."

"Dave was very personable, skilled, and efficient. He transformed our great room into the dream we had imagined. Although we had a hard time choosing the right shade of red for an accent wall, he patiently let us try several shades until we were satisfied. We are extremely happy with the finished project and wholeheartedly recommend Brush Masters!"

Small jobs welcome

"He was one of two of the four pros I requested quotes from, Thomas was quick, answered all questions and installed a dishwasher and over the range microwave, there was an issue on our end with our garage disposal it had not been install correctly, so Thomas came back and fixed our garbage disposal and was very gracious about it, since then there haven’t been any issues and definitely as we’re fixing our house project by project absolutely we will have him again for any projects he follows comfortable with, great service great communication, absolutely job well done and a very happy customer."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

Rebar is a steel support that goes inside concrete to prevent structural damage over time. Concrete is susceptible to impact, weight, and tension. By inserting rebar into the concrete during the installation, you can help extend its lifespan and avoid hazardous situations where the foundation of your home gives way to tensile forces.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.
