"The work Erdelyi associates did is great, but communication and timeliness were lacking. I didn’t have a consistent point of contact throughout the project - it just seems my project was handed off from one person to the next with no continuity and I had to proactively reach out for updates."

"I am a homeowner who did my own home remodeling architectural design. Even though I had architect degree, but I had never done any project in Los Angeles. As everybody knows, Building and Safety has tons of regulations to follow, which made the permitting process especially difficult. I was so lucky to work with David, my structural engineer, who is very sharp, knowledgeable and hardworking. Not only did he deliver his structural design on time but also he guided me through with all details of my architectural plan. He is very responsive and generous about sharing his knowledge. It was such a surprise when David got me the permit over the counter from the city office with only one attempt, which expedited my remodeling project timeline for at least two months. Definitely recommended!!"

"We have used Tom Smith services directly twice, and indirectly a third time. It was his design that led to buying our home in Montecito. He subsequently designed a beautiful wine room which has given us and our friends & family many wonderful memories. We are currently working with Tom on a kitchen redesign and highly recommend him. "Jeromes extensive experience with business TI projects made him the perfect choice for our needs. Hiring him was one of the best decisions we could have made. His exceptional skill, combined with his genuine kindness and honesty, truly set him apart. Culver City presents its fair share of challenges, particularly with the citys responsiveness, but Jerome and his team went above and beyond. They consistently communicated with the city on our behalf, advocating tirelessly to expedite the permit process and relieve so much of the stress on our end. Jerome dedication and professionalism are unmatched, and his commitment to his clients is evident in every step of the process. If you are looking for an architect with top-tier expertise who truly cares about his clients success, look no further. Jerome is simply the best!"

Architects questions, answered by experts

A home elevator is a fantastic way to improve your home’s accessibility. Elevators allow anyone, even those who use wheelchairs or walkers, to safely move between floors within your home.

Dumbwaiters may allow you to move items up and down floors, and stair lifts can move people up and down, but elevators are the best option if you need space for people, their belongings, and/or mobility aids such as wheelchairs.

That said, home elevators cost more than other options, such as stair lifts. Consider your needs and your budget when deciding the best way to make your home more accessible to a person with a disability or a person who is aging in place.

If your project is complex, it may make sense to hire an architect to draw plans. An architect might also be a good person to hire if you want to ensure your plans adhere to building codes and regulations.

Some architects include interior design in their portfolio of offerings, while some architectural firms employ interior designers to handle that aspect of home building projects or refer clients to interior designers they’ve worked with in the past. Ask a local architect whether they offer interior design services as well.

There are differences between universal design and ADA accommodations, but the outcomes are often similar. While universal design is a proactive process that takes a social justice approach to accessibility for all, ADA accommodations are focused specifically on accessibility for individuals living with disabilities. ADA accommodations often take the shape of wider doors and hallways, ramps, elevators, lower counters and sinks, and easy-to-grab door handles; universal design can include these plus emphasize better lighting, tractioned floors, and other building elements that allow all people to use buildings more comfortably.

Balancing aesthetics with functionality amidst space planning is important. To do so, you could consider consulting both an interior designer and an architect to fulfill both these needs. Or you can tackle it on your own by prioritizing personal touches amidst space planning that add to the look but don't take away from the livability of the space.
