Nothing feels better than a dream come true. At Old Ironsides Construction, that's what we do! From project management, to kitchen and bath remodels, fence work, concrete, room additions and more. Let us help you bring possible through to reality. We are a team of like minded guys who love helping transform dreams into reality. A disabled veteran business, we know intimately what it means to serve. Repeat business is our specialty, and referrals is our sales pipeline.

"From the start the company was very punctual. I was extremely impressed with Steve the painter. The precision in his brush strokes was amazing. I've watched a lot of professional painters in my life and he was by far the best I've seen. He was also very knowledgeable. The other painter David was extremely polite. He was also very skilled. They did an absolutely amazing job. The countertop installation was also very interesting to watch and the men who cut and installed our quartzite countertops were very quick and professional and did an amazing job. Dan, our tile guy, was also very quick and professional. He was very polite and made sure to check with me about decisions on how the tile was placed. I was very appreciative of that. Overall, I was very pleased with every crew that came to our house to work. To have an honest and fair review, I will also list the negatives. They are miniscule but still notable. Communication with management was lacking. I often had to ask when someone was coming. I had my kitchen completely demoed and no more work scheduled for 5 days. Seems like demo could've waited. I had to negotiate the price more than once which seemed inappropriate. Once should've been plenty. Twice I had men show up to work completely unannounced. When the work was completed, there was an absolute cut off of communication. No gratitude for my business of any sort. They sent a worker to ask for the final payment. Overall, the work is extremely quality work, so the company still gets 5/5 stars and I would recommend them. The positives far outweigh the negatives."

I specialize in preparing properties per owner specifications for tenant transitions. I recognize the importance of lost rental revenue due to deterioration and the necessity for expedience. I have rehabilitated many units in the Bakersfield area for new tenant occupancies and can provide ongoing services for property maintenance. I can also provide after hours response with appropriate remedies until owner feedback and direction are generated. Property management agencies and owners alike, are extremely satisfied with my affordability, quality, and velocity. Let me also protect your properties during unexpected transitions with secure board ups of windows, doorways, and other areas susceptible to unwanted entry.

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

Tiles last for around 100 years or more. Tiles on backsplashes can last even longer since they’re less likely to crack under foot traffic or from accidental drops, but even tile in high-traffic flooring can last a century or more with proper installation and upkeep. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.

Yes, you can tile over existing shower tiles, but it's better to remove the old tiles first for the best results. Tiling over existing tiles requires a clean, level surface and proper adhesion. If the old tiles are in good condition, you can roughen the surface to improve adhesion. However, removing the old tiles ensures a smoother, longer-lasting finish and prevents potential issues down the line.

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.
