Many paint brands advertise as being one-coat paints. While technically true, most painting jobs still require at least two coats of paint to fully cover older paint effectively. Buying in bulk can help you save, provided you use all the paint you purchase. For example, a 5-gallon bucket of paint tends to cost less per gallon than a pint or quart-sized can.

For the best results, you should apply two coats of paint to your wrought iron fence. Let your first coat dry for about an hour then promptly apply your second coat.

Although plastic-sealed paint cans can look tricky, you can open them with adjustable pliers in no time. Grip the plastic seal with the pliers and pull the seal up, moving around the seal until you’ve pried the plastic up in enough spots. Then, you can grab the seal and pop it off the top of the paint can. Depending on the strength of the seal, you may even be able to remove the seal with just your hands by pulling upwards.
