"I've genuinely never had a better experience with a contractor before. Larry, John, and the entire crew not only offered me the best price on the ramp build but also exceeded my expectations with their work. I'm truly fortunate to have hired them and would happily recommend them to all my family and friends."

"Nathan is not only an OCD fine carpenter -- he is also a great communicator and a great guy. He installed our new 8-ft elegant front door after having demolished the existing entry door, with its sidelight and eyebrow windows and a 6'8" door place there by the original builder of the home. Entirely new framing job. He helped me with the order itself, did troubleshooting for me when no one know where the door was after we were told it was shipped, and stayed well into the evening on installation day to make sure it was in readiness to be used and locked up for the night. The results are STUNNiNG. We would never hesitate to use Nathan for any of our remodeling needs where a finish carpenter is needed. Thank you, Nathan!"

"Russ was amazing to work with. Very professional and easy to get ahold of when we had questions. He came out multiple times to ensure that we had the proper stain to match the floors. He worked on our time frame as we had contractors we were working around. I would recommend him to anyone looking to refinish a staircase."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

For maximum stability, install grab bars on wall studs, as this will adequately support the weight. However, if you don't have access to studs, you can get by with wall anchors. If opting for the latter, choose specialty hollow wall anchors.
