"Had a great experience with these guys. They came out and excavated a bunch of dirt for me and graded it to get it ready for a new driveway. They also trenched for 3 inch drain lines that I had them install for all the erosion I was getting from the rain. The quality of work was top-notch. Everything was done right. They clearly take pride in what they do and were reliable. I highly recommend them. I’ll definitely be using them again."

"I have hired this company many times for work on my house and they always deliver exceptional quality at an affordable price. They built a beautiful wall and flagstone patio for my backyard. They also built a beautiful concrete pathway up to my front door and did the landscaping watering system and the entire outdoor lighting system. I most recently had Ricardo out to do all the bark for my house which looks amazing!"

"I watched Turnkey crew perform a landscape job for my neighbors across the street and needed someone to dig out tree roots and re-level my patio pavers, run drip irrigation and electrical, pour a new base for my fountain plus install a French drain. Lucio and his crew were professional, on time, fairly priced and most important of all, did top notch work. I have other projects for them down the road, and won't hesitate to call them back. Highly recommend!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.

Yes, professional installations include trenching or borehole drilling required for ground loops.

The digging depth will depend on the size of the trencher you use. Even smaller units can dig up to 4 feet deep, which is plenty for a DIY job. However, much larger trenchers can reach a depth of 18 feet and are better used by a team of pro contractors, not a single DIYer. As with all home improvement projects, use the right tool for the job and proceed with caution.

Yes, chipmunk holes may have two or more entrances. Chipmunks can create an entire network of burrows. Having multiple entrances makes it easier for them when trying to escape from a predator, such as a snake, or if an entrance collapses due to flooding. Each entrance leads to the nesting chamber underground, which is where the chipmunk spends the majority of its time sleeping.

The best type of soil to build on is a mixture of sand and clay, known as loam soil. Loam soil has the best combination of these soil types to build a foundation on. The clay particles help with water retention, so it won’t erode like sandy soil might, and the sandy particles help with drainage, so you won’t see unsafe soil expansion or have an increased risk of leaks from water sitting against your foundation.
