"I wish I had more property to put fences and or gates on. I needed a rolling driveway gate with privacy lattice and 2 side yard gates with privacy lattice. They came out quickly and gave me an estimate and then no pressure and no sales calls. When I was ready to have the work done they coordinated a time that worked for me to be there (I work nights) and they got the work done. I couldn't be happier. That gates make my house look better and I feel better knowing that the new gates add privacy and strength to my property."

"The owner of CVF came for the initial bid as well as his forman and both were very professional and explained all the steps, which I thought was complete. The work was done as agreed to and no mess was left at all. Overall we are very pleased with our fence and the quality of the job. We highly recommend Central Valley Fence."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

It is almost always necessary to hire a land surveyor near you to ensure your fence sits on the right side of the property line. Mistaking the shape of your property can lead to fines and costly changes if you have to move or adjust the privacy fence—not to mention some surly looks from your neighbor. We recommend jumpstarting your fence planning in the spring to ensure there is plenty of time to map out your plan before construction season.

The recommended height for a garden fence depends on its primary purpose. For pest control, the necessary height varies by animal. To keep out small pests like rabbits, a fence should be at least two to three feet tall. If you live in an area with deer, you will need a much taller fence, at least five feet high, to prevent them from jumping over. If the main goal is privacy, the fence should be at least seven feet tall. For purely decorative fences, the height is a matter of personal preference.

Rust, bent or broken bars, loose posts, and weakened welds are common problems that require repair to maintain security and appearance.

The most affordable metal fence type is wire at just $3 to $5 per linear foot. Wire fences come in a variety of styles and do a good job of marking perimeters and keeping animals in or out of certain areas. While they’re very easy to install and repair, many homeowners find them unattractive, and many homeowners associations won’t allow them.

Who pays for a new fence between neighbors depends on its location relative to the property line. If you build the fence entirely on your property, you are solely responsible for the costs of installation, maintenance, and repair. If the fence is built directly on the property line, both neighbors are typically responsible for the costs. In this case, it is essential to consult with your neighbor beforehand to agree on a plan for payment. While you should always inform your neighbor of your plans in advance, you generally cannot force them to contribute financially unless there are specific local laws, such as in California, where both parties might be responsible for costs unless a different agreement exists. It's a good idea to get a property line survey to know the exact boundaries before building.
