Customers say: Super punctual

"Tim Jackson has done good quality work for my fiancé in San Francisco, so he suggested I find him on Angie's List, and here we are. It turns out that because there is so much work for him in SF, Tim doesn't take jobs further out, like Daly City, where I live. However, the reason I'm writing this review is because, since he couldn't take the job, Tim recommended another handyman, Mark Young, who it turns out my fiancé has also had good experiences with. Mark is coming out to give me a quote on the work, and I'd like to make it public how impressed I am that Tim didn't just turn me down and instead pointed me to a good replacement for him. Thanks, Tim!"

"Walter and Glen at Protect Your Home Group with ADT are the best people to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

"I lost my only key to the apartment and was out with screen door, deadbolt and doorknob locked :/ Nathan arrived after 15 minutes as promised, opened all three without damaging anything, got me inside in 10 minutes, and in no more than half an hour he had a new set of keys made."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Yes, many locksmiths offer 24/7 emergency services for business lockouts, broken keys, and security breaches.

If part of the key is protruding out of the lock, you can use a pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers to gently turn the key in the lock to open the door. If the key is fully inserted into the lock, you may also be able to use a key extractor to help turn the key into the unlocked position.

But if the key breaks off halfway into the lock or you simply can’t reach it to help engage the unlocking mechanisms, you should probably call a professional.

Commercial locksmith services range from $75 to $500, depending on the job's complexity, such as key duplication, lock installation, or access control system setup.

Door locks should be changed roughly every seven years. The average lifespan of a door lock is seven to 10 years, so it’s best to err on the side of caution and change them early, especially if they are showing signs of wear and tear. Examples of deterioration include visible rust and difficulty opening or closing the door. Some locks can work safely beyond 10 years, but it depends on how often they are used and whether they are exposed to damaging environmental conditions like precipitation or extreme temperatures.

If your door handle turns without opening, the most likely culprit is a loose or stripped spindle. This part connects the handles to the latch mechanism, and when it’s not properly engaged, turning the handle does nothing. Other issues might include a broken latch, loose screws, or even something small blocking an inner mechanism. In any case, it’s usually a matter of tightening, adjusting, or replacing a worn-out part inside the handle assembly—or calling in a professional to do it for you.
