"John was very friendly, very nice and very open. I knew spartan was the one as soon as I spoke with him. Plus the interest rate was very reasonable. And Amy in the office was so sweet, so helpful. I was nervous because progressive was going to cancel my insurance due to my old roof. I spent the whole day calling people and finally found spartan, Amy walked me through everytbing. Even the workers were sweethearts, Jose was my favorite.John was very friendly, very nice and very open. I knew spartan was the one as soon as I spoke with him. Roofing questions, answered by experts

The most important thing to remember when laying shingles is to work from the bottom of the slope to the top. This leaves you with a top overlap that directs runoff from one row to the next until it reaches the eave for disposal. You should also make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions and the local building code for nailing patterns and frequency so all of your hard work stays put through varying weather conditions.

Furring strips (also called wood stripping) are not always necessary for a metal roof installation, but they are highly recommended and may be required by local building codes or the roofing manufacturer's specifications. There are several key reasons to use them:

  • Energy Efficiency: Furring strips, made of wood or metal, create an air gap between the metal panels and the roof deck. This acts as a thermal break, reducing heat transfer into your home and improving overall energy efficiency.

  • Moisture and Condensation Control: The air gap allows for better airflow, which helps prevent moisture buildup and condensation under the metal panels.

  • Structural Support: They provide a solid, even frame to which you can attach the metal roofing panels.

It is especially important to use furring strips when installing a metal roof over existing shingles. Without them, the roof surface can be uneven, and you will experience greater solar heat gain.

In most cases, no, roofers won’t need to come inside. Some reasons roofers may need to come inside are to assess ventilation. inspect roof leaks, or check for any structural concerns.

Properly maintained roof decking can last between 20 and 30 years on average, though it varies based on a few factors. Mainly, the quality of roof decking materials and environmental conditions have the most impact on longevity. You can extend its lifespan by regularly inspecting your roof and making repairs as necessary.

Chimney caps have a solid top but perforated sides so smoke can exit safely. If rain or snow falls downward, chimney caps can protect the chimney’s interior. Just note that if rain or snow blows in sideways, there’s a higher likelihood it will enter the chimney—but it's not often a cause for concern as long as you have a cap.
