"Steve came over to my house to address my concerns about my leaking pipes and I explained that I needed a Moen water device installed for my insurance provider. The house is very old so and I was very clear that it's likely going to be a very labor intensive job. I informed him of the other quotes I received and which were totaling thirty five thousand dollars and after looking at the quotes he informed me that not all of that work needed to be done and it was just a couple of problem areas that he could take care of. Later that night after getting home Steve ran the numbers and called me to inform me that the job in total would be 8986 and he would only need 2666 to get the job started and it was a high cost because of the cost of copper. I zelled him the money and he bought all the materials needed for the job and placed them in my front yard to get the project started. The next day Steve was a no show and I was in text communication with him because I was in and out of my house. The next day I texted Steve if he was going to be working and he informed me that he was already there. Once I arrived Steve asked for more money for saw blades which zelled to him and he went to pick up. The next day we had planned to meet at 7am so i could let him in and did not hear from him till 8am. That afternoon Steve came in and went right under the house and started working when I was able to talk to him I explained what my insurance company wanted which was a screen shot that read " A certification letter from the waterleak detection vendor. The property address should match the policy location address. The letter must have the vendor's logo. The certificate must be dated within 45 days (excluding CA) of new business or mid-term effective date. Proof of professional installation by a licensed contractor is required. He told me he was going to install that first to put my mind at ease because insurance can be a little tricky and I was worried about that first and foremost. At this time I asked him if the device need to be plugged in because all the other contractors said they would need to run power but Steve assured me that it ran on a battery. At that time I asked him to give me a ballpark as to when the work would be completed and he assured me by the following weekend. Come that following Monday I received a text that he needed more money for the copper pipe because he had the wrong size and needed to to be bigger so I zelled him again so he could exchange what he had and enough to cover the difference. After sending him a screen shot of the receipt he followed up with another message saying that should be all needed for materials. The next day I received a text from Steve that the copper pipe was too expensive so he would be switching to PEX and that he had quoted me for PEX because "its life span would give me time to financially recover" I called Steve after this and asked what the difference in PEX vs copper was going to be and he said it was the same but they were able to get more PEX. I explained that it didn't make a whole lot of sense because he had told me how expensive the copper was going to be but I let it go because I assumed it would be coming out of the back end. Later that evening Steve called me asking for more money to pay his laborer but to not zelle it to him and to bring cash because his account was in the negative. The next day I received a text asking to meet me at the property and that he needed 2500 to pay his laborers and that he needed more materials. Up to this entire point Steve had told me that he needed to cut up my back yard to fix my sewer drain. I called Steve and explained that this felt like it was getting out of hand he changed his answer to 165 for laborer and drywall. The next morning I texted him that I could give him 180 cash and I would be on my way shortly. At this point Steve had taken down one of my walls next to my water heater without talking to me about it and his attitude towards me after I told him that I did expect things to go back to the way they were he was a little off put it was clear he had no intention of repairing the wall had I not asked. Since it felt like we were getting closer to installing the water device I asked him again if it needed power and again he told me it ran on a battery and that it would be easy. The next day he informed me that he fell at the house and skinned his knee and had gone back to his house to get it cleaned up. I told him to take care of himself and to keep me updated. Later that afternoon Steve called me to tell me that the device did in fact need power and that he wasn't able to connect it because of that. I reminded him that I had asked multiple times and he assured me that it wasn't an issue. he then told me he would need to return the device and buy a more expensive one that ran on a battery he said I could install the power here but I don't want to burn your house down so I should call someone else. I told him to stay put and that I was heading over and we could try and figure it out there. I rushed over to help solve the issue and found that another person was working on installing the device. I pulled Steve aside and I asked him to be frank with me and if the job was to much which is why he needed all the help and he told me no he just wanted it to be completed. Now at this point even the guy that was working on the device was a little off put and it was clear that Steve didn't know how to install the device. He was giving the guy who was installing it grief and at one point the worker said "If you know how to do it then do it yourself!" I was able to get a better look at what they were trying to do and how they were running the water lines and it was clear that they had cut out my sprinkler system all together and it was no longer getting water. I asked Steve why it had been cut and why it wasn't being fed back into the system and he just told me "he said it was ok to cut" I asked who he was and he referenced another one of his workers. I exclaimed that he was the boss of this job site and that I expected these things to be fixed because they were fine before he started. Again pulling Steve aside I explained that this is the reason why I was so worried because it seemed like he was causing more work for himself then was necessary. It was at this time Steve told me that my sewer line was smashed and it was going to cost more. I asked him if he could see where it was smashed and he couldn't tell me I then told him I was under the impression that it was leaking but not smashed. He crawled back under the house and to investigate at which time he told me that it was completely fine and that he just needed to tighten up a fitting. I told him because of all the short cuts it seemed like he was creating more work for himself and was ripping me off. He explained that he wasn't trying to rip me off but he would be able to get everything done in 2 days by Monday. Monday being the 29th gave me a small window to have the device installed and still get the letter to my insurer by their deadline. Saturday they had installed the device but it was too small and the pipe fittings were bursting they continued to work on it but told me they were going to return the device for a larger one by Tuesday the other device was ready to install but not installed because his worker wasn't there to do it. On the first I had missed my deadline but my insurer was willing to work with me as long as I could provide the license number and the name of the company. The next morning I received a call from my insurer that there was no license under the name of the business name or the name of the contractor. I drove over to my house to meet Steve who when confronted with the fact that he didn't have a license he told me that his worker had a license and he was going to do it. At this point I exclaimed that I had hired him to do the install and not his worker who turns out was not actually his worker but a friend from church and had no idea what was going on and had certainly was not going to accept that reasonability. It was at this time I told Steve that he was fired and to take his stuff"
