We are a full-service interior design business. Tina Nelson is CCIDC Certified and has more than 40 years experience in the design industry. Tina has designed banks, medical buildings, car dealerships and nurmerous complete residential homes.

"We hired Tina to remodel our lobby and one office which included new LVT flooring. Tina failed do the the moisture test and we started having issues right away. Tina replaced the flooring in the small office, with us paying for the sealant she should have used the first time. When in came time to redo the lobby . She brought in a Leak Detection company who found nothing, to try to shift the blame to us. Tina opened a claim with her insurance firm and has refused to fix her work. The insurance company offered us less than the bid we have to redo her work properly. We reported her to the Contractors Lic Board who have reprimanded her and since she has ADMITTED FAULT they suggest we take her to small claims. We are not that kind of people so we took the short payment from her Insurance firm and are paying to have our lobby floors fixed. We spent a couple years trying to get her to do the right thing. She refuses. We were polite and professional, she was not. I guess she is at the end of her career and just doesn't care how this will effect her ability to get new clients in this small area. I have included a photo of just one of the leaky seams."

Furniture Refinishing questions, answered by experts

In most cases, it is more affordable to reupholster furniture than it is to replace it, but it depends on the quality and age of the furniture you’re considering getting reupholstered. Antique pieces are always worth reupholstering, as it’s the only way to preserve the piece and extend its life. Newer pieces of furniture are more often made using lower-quality materials like medium-density fiberboard or plywood that don’t have the same lifespan as things like hardwood. For newer pieces, your furniture reupholstery specialist should be able to help you determine the best course of action.

Yes, refinishing can decrease or even diminish the value of antique furniture, as most collectors look for original finishes to maintain the piece’s historical integrity. Learning how to clean antique wood and carefully restore the finish without stripping it is the best way to maintain the piece’s original value. Either way, it’s best to take it to a professional furniture refinishing and restoration expert rather than attempting a DIY restoration.

The cost to refinish a dresser ranges from $300 to $2,000 on average, depending on the dresser’s size, material, and detail. If you need to repair the dresser before refinishing it, you can expect that service to cost extra. While it’s possible to restore and refinish antique furniture yourself, we recommend hiring a professional furniture refinisher to maintain the integrity of vintage and heirloom pieces. That way, you have the peace of mind of knowing that your dresser will receive professional-grade restoration.

To treat sun-damaged furniture, clean the surface thoroughly to remove dirt and debris. Next, assess the damage: Consider refinishing or applying a protective sealant for faded finishes. Apply furniture oil or conditioner to restore moisture to cracked or dry wood. Remember, the best way to treat your furniture is to prevent damage in the first place. Regular maintenance and preventive measures will keep your furniture looking its best. Lastly, it may be best to consult a professional furniture restorer or refinisher for expert repairs and restoration in severe cases.

Sometimes you will need a stronger cleaning solution to thoroughly clean furniture before painting. It’s best to start with a mild solution to avoid damaging the surface, especially if it is an antique piece. If you need to use a stronger mixture, try a commercial cleaner or mineral spirits. Before applying any solution, do a test patch on an inconspicuous area so you don’t risk damaging the finish.
