Clyde's Next Generation is a family owned and operated consumer electronics retailer and service provider. The owners have been serving the Redding community and surrounding area for nearly 30 years. These folks grew up working in the business along side their parents for more than 20 years, and are now grooming their own children to one day take on the business for themselves. Next Generation offers only quality consumer electronics at box store prices backed by hometown service. They are active members of the community in which they live and provide sponsorships to various non-profit organizations such as military veteran's groups, senior citizen programs, and public and private school fundraisers, along with many, many others. They believe that it is not only their obligation to give back to their community, it is a down-right privilege!

Furniture Refinishing questions, answered by experts

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.

If you have decided that hiring a professional to refinish your floors will be faster and more satisfactory, you can expect to pay between $1,000 and $2,500. To get a better idea of what your hardwood refinishing project will cost with a professional, multiply the project’s square footage by the average price of $4 per square foot.

Telling the difference between high-quality wood furniture and lower-quality pieces is challenging, but there are a few sign that indicate whether your furniture is worth repairing:

  • Push your fingernail into an inconspicuous section of the wood. If it doesn’t leave a dent, it’s likely hardwood and is well worth a repair.

  • Unzip the bottom of couches to look for the structural components. If they’re made of wood rather than particle board, it’s likely worth refinishing.

  • Ask a local furniture repair technician. A reputable professional will let you know if you’re better off replacing rather than refinishing your specific item.

Clean regularly, avoid overloading shelves, and address scratches or dents promptly.

Wood filler is used to fix imperfections or damaged interior sections of wood on items like cabinets, door frames, and even laminate floors or countertops. It contains wood byproducts like sawdust mixed with water or solvent, which helps bind to wood and dry pretty quickly.
