"I couldnâ t have found a more talented, experienced, professional, always on time contractor & crew to remodel my 1926 bathroom, install pullout drawers in my kitchen pantry, & fix some cabinet doors. He listened to my ideas, and now I have my dream bathroom with Mexican tile. Quality Renovations also installed a new door & frame to accommodate my wheelchair. I was so impressed with there craftsmanship I had them do numerous smaller jobs, like a door & door frame & floor that had leaked when we last had heavy rain. They will definitely be my first choice to do any future remodeling. They are a joy to work with ( my lab agrees). I highly recommend Quality Renovation Solutions."

"Young was very patient with me as I have very high expectations but I was frustrated from the remediation company damaging my furniture. He explained since it was older furniture it would not be perfect but much better than what It was. He delivered on that promise and I didn’t make it easy for him. He was very kind and the result was quite good"

"Brett and his team did fantastic work! The first job was repairing a balcony that was suffering from water intrusion. The 2nd job was installing/framing out sunroom windows that would actually open and close; turning the sunroom into a functional space (instead of a sauna). It is been great to walk-in there and enjoy my morning coffee! Highly recommend and very satisfied with Brett’s work."

"I hired John to do the framing phase for my kitchen expansion/open floor concept. I was the owner/builder and needed someone who was patient, thorough and conscious of the the time needed in meeting my schedule. John prove to be a good fit. First, by showing up for the initial visit on time. He took the time needed to review the plan from the city. He listened to me explain what I wanted and answered my concerns. We reached an agreement and he started as scheduled. The framing involved 3 load bearing walls. Only 2 of which were in the architect/engineer's drawing. John discovered an 11-foot load bearing beam missing from their drawing. I thank John many times for discovering that major mistake. John was patient in working through this with me. John fulfilled our contract with his quote and completion time. He deserves 10 STARS for his attention to details, customer satisfaction efforts and overall business approach to my project."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

General contractors use subcontractors to complete specific parts of a construction project. For example, a general contractor might have construction experience but need a subcontractor to install plumbing lines in a new home.

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.

Yes, many repair services include blade sharpening as part of the maintenance package.

There are two ways you can cut trim for doorways: with a miter saw or a table saw. Mitered joints need a 45-degree angle. If you’re unfamiliar with a miter saw, you might want to consider buying extra trim pieces or choosing butted joints instead. One wrong cut, and you’ll need to power up the saw again with a new piece.

Butted joints—also called shaker style—don’t need a 45-degree angle. Instead, your side pieces attach perpendicularly to the header trim and only require a straight cut.

If you’re just replacing a few broken or damaged joists, you can expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $300 per joist. However, a complete installation for a home or room will take into account the cost of labor, which ranges from $25 to $40 per hour. Floor joist installation for an entire room, for example, can cost between $5,000 and $10,000, depending on the room's size and the materials used.
