"We were looking for an estimate and I did not realize I had asked for them to contact me but they did the next day. They were so prompt to call me and even when I explained I had another company coming out from HomeAdvisor, they still offered to come out at another time that would not conflict with our other appointment. The day before they followed up to confirm and the morning of our appointment we hired the first company on spot. I called New Leaf to let them know so they would not waste their time and they were so appreciative and again so courteous. Although we did not hire them I would recommend them for their customer service!"

"They showed up early, after calling to see if was OK. Very professional, great value for the price. Their chipper truck broke down earlier in the morning and still came and did a great job. Would recommend them to anyone who needs tree work."

"I can't say enough about the amazing work done by Chuck at Dolan Painting and More. Chuck restored our weathered and peeling front gate and it now looks like brand new! He was professional throughout the project and when the color wasn't just right to his satisfaction, he worked several extra hours to get it just right to his and our satisfaction. He is an extremely hard worker and we look forward to working with Dolan Painting and More on several additional painting and handyman projects around our home. If you're looking for a company that is affordable, hard working, and professional, this is it. Thanks for our beautiful refinished gate!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Any cutting of tree roots can hurt or kill a tree, which is why it's recommended you don’t do it unless the roots are damaging or invasive on a nearby structure like your home. You should never cut more than 15 percent of above-ground tree roots at one time. If you have any questions about cutting tree roots, contact your local arborist.

It may be possible, but transplanting a large, mature tree can be a tricky project, and some trees handle it better than others. If you have a tree you need to save and are considering transplanting it elsewhere, we highly suggest calling a tree removal service and arranging a consultation to see what they say (and how much a full transplant would cost).

You should avoid cutting off the top of mature cherry trees. This process is called tree topping, and it’s not recommended for cherry trees—or any trees, for that matter. Tree topping removes between one-third to half of the length of the tree trunk, resulting in structurally unsound, fruitless suckers. The only exception is for saplings. Young pie, sour, and tart cherry trees that are over 30 inches tall in the fall or winter before the tree blooms can benefit from heading cuts.

The best tool to cut trees is a chain saw. You can adjust your chain saw to the correct size based on the size of the branches, offering you the fastest and cleanest cut for medium- to large-sized trees. Depending on the type of chainsaw you use, you can cut through larger trees than you would with a more manual tool like an ax.

Yes, it’s possible to overwater a newly-planted tree. Daily watering is great for the first few weeks, but it’s important not to go overboard. Excessive watering can lead to various problems, including root rot, fungal diseases, and a lack of root development.
